Job Summary
In collaboration with a physician, diagnoses and treats certain acute or chronic health conditions in the adult intensive care unit. Job Responsibilities
- Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.
- Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
- Provides counseling and education to patients and their families / caregivers concerning preventative health and treatment options.
- Provides care in the context of promoting age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making, and the right to self-determination.
- Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.
- Assists with admissions, consults, daily progress notes, and transfers from critical care unit.
- Coordinates care between medical specialties.
- Participates in morning rounding with intensivist and rounding with the multidisciplinary intensive care team.
- Assists intensivists with procedures which include central line and arterial line placement; additional procedures may include chest tube placement and thoracentesis with the pulmonologists / intensivists.
- Assists with basic ventilator management.
- Performs critical care ultrasound procedures.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire
- No experience required
- RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND
- APRN - Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
- APRN - National certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) required upon hire OR
- APRN - National certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) required upon hire OR
- APRN - National certification from American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN) required upon hire AND
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire AND
- BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire
