American Indian / Alaska Native Urban Indian Health Program is seeking an experienced Dental Assistant to join our team! The successful candidate will assist the dentist during the examination, treatment, and billing of patients by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties
- Schedules appointments with consideration of the duration of procedures, agency hours, and dentists’ availability
- Assesses patients. Evaluates effectiveness of care plan and patient’s dental progress
- Sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures
- Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of the patient
- Sterilizes tools and equipment
- Follows up with patients, documenting all client encounters
- Maintains patient cancellation list, updating as necessary to maximize dentist / patient care
- Conducts all client interactions respectfully, professionally, and confidentially
- Maintains inventory and order as indicated
- Prepares and makes deposits according to DIHFS procedure
- Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays
- Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting

- Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations
- Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs
- Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by the Dentist. Applies protective coating of fluoride to teeth
- Other Duties Refers patients to other healthcare staff as needed / indicated
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of community-based dental prevention activities
- Actively participates in staff meetings, in-service, outreach, and educational programs
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to interact with diverse clients and work effectively with staff and other agency professionals
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate effectively in verbal and in written forms
- Ability to transmit calmness and security to patients who may feel uncomfortable or anxious
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use a database
- Organizational skills
- Proficient in dental care and dental education
- Ability to perform required duties and actions in a professional and culturally sensitive manner
- Work with minimal supervision
- Successfully function in a team setting.

- 3 years of dental assistant experience
- Works in a normal office environment working with standard office equipment (such as phone, fax, and personal computer).
Light physical activity is required by handling objects up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally and / or up to ten (10) pounds frequently
- Must be able to walk unassisted
- Personal vehicle required. Valid CO driver’s license and proof of liability insurance to operate a vehicle on behalf of the agency.
