Provides support for research by conducting experiments in a cancer research lab, collecting and analyzing results, and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory (bench and field), animal or human research.
Key areas of responsibilities include conducting research activities / experiments, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, preparing reports, contributing to manuscripts / publications, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management, and supervision / staffing.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Research :
Coordinate multiple research projects / programs.
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations :
Manage research projects / programs, support and conduct complex research and direct all phases of the project / program / service.
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications :
- Contribute to lab / research project as evidenced by documented recognition in publications as an author or for technical assistance.
- May develop new methodology and techniques related to the area of research.
- May perform complex statistical analysis of data using advanced statistical methods and tools.
- Conduct literature and genome database research.
- Assist in preparation of manuscripts, posters, publications and grant applications.
Administrative and Project Management :
- Manage / direct a research lab, center, service, or core facility. Manage the operational, fiscal and HR / staffing activities for the lab / facility.
- Manage complex processes, external relationship development, and project / process leadership. Assure safety and compliance;
respond to compliance and safety violations.
- Update and enforce R&D safety, IACUC compliance, and IBC regulations through committee meetings and lab inspections.
- Coordinate budget expenditure and financial reports.
- Assist and interact with principal investigators and other collaborators.
- Attend seminars and conferences to keep abreast with up-to-date advances.
Facilities and Equipment Management :
- Prepare short and long-term plans for all aspects of the research lab, center, service or core facility
- Procure, maintain and update supplies and equipment.
- Negotiate maintenance contracts and lab supplies bulk purchases.
Supervision / Staffing :
Collaborate with human resources personnel to hire new staff. Track completion of performance evaluations by their supervisors.
Ensure staff compliance with UI policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that support staff engagement in the workplace.
- Train, supervise and collaborate with fellow laboratory staff and visiting scientists
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of related experience is required.
