The Nurse Researcher will support nursing research, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and innovation.
Essential Job Functions :
- Candidate will have the ability to engage and guide nurses through the research, quality improvement and EBP processes to support improve patient outcomes, or nurse / team member satisfaction.Â
- Through the model of Shared Governance, collaborate with all members of the research council with a focus on generating new knowledge and innovations, and promoting dissemination of project outcomes.Â
- The candidate will engage in the systemwide Nursing Research and Innovation Council to represent the medical center where they work.Â
- Support ANCC Magnet requirements and written application.
- Candidate will demonstrate and embrace the PRIDE core values (Professionalism, Respect, Involvement, Dignity and Excellence) in every aspect of their job.
- Candidate must have excellent communication and computer skills.
- Serve as a facilitator of goals and research / QI / EBP and innovation processes for the Nursing Research Councils at MMC. Â Â
- As a member of the council, serve as a resource for goals and research / QI / EBP and innovation processes for the AHS Nursing Shared Governance Research and Innovation Council.Â
- Organize EBP projects to explore the strength of evidence and summarize  evidence-based reviews related to proposed practice / policy changes to determine if the evidence supports the proposed change in practice.
- Design and execute nursing studies to address or answer clinical practice or operational questions. Â
- Collaborate with other AHS nurse researchers to educate nurses about the research process, AHS institutional review board process, QI projects EBP, abstract writing, poster presentations, and manuscript writing. Â
- Guide RN team members through the AHS process needed to obtain IRB approval and conduct a meaningful and well-designed nursing studies. Â
- Support the ANCC Magnet designation by assuring elements of New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvement (NKII) are successfully achieved.Â
- Lead writing of the New Knowledge, Improvement and Innovation sections for the Magnet submission.
- Drive dissemination of nursing research / QI / EBP through publications, posters and podium presentations at local, regional, national and international professional organizations.
Track dissemination with key elements (author / presenter, title, publication or conference, date, nature of the dissemination, location, etc.
on a monthly basis and for the annual report.Â
- Encourage nurses to share ideas for innovation and record innovations. Collaborate with the Atlantic Venture Studios / Atlantic Healthcare Advancement (AHa!) to share and develop novel ideas.Â
- Search and apply for grant funding for research, QI and EBP projects.Â
- Communicate with leaders of Shared Governance Councils, and attend MMC meetings, as appropriate : Practice Council, Quality Council, and Professional Development Council, APN Council, Research Council, Night Council, and Executive Council. Â
- At the MMC Practice Council and the AHS Practice Council review proposed new practices / policies for recent and accurate evidence listed as references, in APA format.
- Provide guidance to AHS nurses who are in school, with a requirement for a research / QI / EBP project (requiring IRB approval);
review requirements, time table, and guide to completion following AHS guidelines and also school requirements.Â
- Serve as a data collection and statistical resource for projects (academic and non-academic). Collaborate with AHS statistician to confirm design and / or findings.
- Facilitate the EBP Scholars Program (10-month program) for clinical nurses.
- Collaborate and co-facilitate the Designing Nurses Work Shop sessions (10 month program)
- Seek grant funding to support nursing research / QI / EBP projects.Â
- Plan and manage budget allocations in a fiscally responsible manner. Provide monthly variance reports.Â
- Support systemwide activities as requested.Â
- Plan, initiate and host the MMC Nursing Research Conference annually in the Fall.
Required :
1. RN degree with PhD in Nursing
2. Â Leadership / management experience and strong research skills
3. Knowledge of grant funding applications
4. 5 years+ as a clinical nurse
5. Experience with publications and presentations
6. Interest or experience in innovation
7. Experience with IRB application submissions
Preferred :
training for minimal risk research
