Overview :

The Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel is looking for a Seasonal Part-Time painter to join our team!

Position Summary : As a part-time painter, you will be responsible for preparing and painting walls, doors, and ceilings in guest rooms, corridors, and back-of-house areas, ensuring a welcoming environment for our guests.

The painter’s role is varied and includes tasks such as touching up furniture and performing preventative maintenance in interior and exterior, public and private areas.

Scheduling : This is a Seasonal position, working primarily AM shifts during the week, but with the flexibility to work PM shifts and weekends if needed.

The expected length of employment is 7 months.

Specifically, this role includes these primary responsibilities, including but not limited to :

Preparing and painting interior areas such as public areas and guest room walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, and other surfaces.

Preparing and painting exterior areas such as buildings, walls, metal, masonry, and concrete, including caulking and sealing around doors and windows.

Patch and repair walls, fill cracks and holes, spackle and tape sheetrock.

Safely handle and dispose of all waste generated during the painting process following OSHA regulations and company standards.

Assist in managing the inventory of supplies and equipment, like PPE, paint brushes, rollers, and tarps to ensure adequate stock.

Collaborate with the engineering team and other departments to coordinate painting activities and provide room status updates to minimize disruptions to hotel operations

Adhere to safety standards and regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for all employees and guests.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Painter or Chief Engineer.

Supportive Functions : The hotel functions seven (7) days a week and twenty-four (24) hours per day. Due to the seasonal nature and business hours of a hotel, candidates must realize it may be necessary to move an employee from their accustomed shift to meet business demands.

All associates are expected to perform any other duties as requested by management to support other departments and / or operational requirements.

Qualifications :

Ability to effectively speak, hear, read, and comprehend instructions, both written and oral, in the English language.

Strong attention to detail.

Thorough knowledge of how to properly handle, store, and dispose of painting materials per state and federal laws and regulations.

Able to adapt to unexpected changes in high-pressure situations with a sense of urgency.

Moves materials and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. regularly.

Capable of Working in dirty, dusty, or uncomfortable surroundings, including being exposed to varying temperatures, noise levels, and hazardous materials depending on the tasks performed.

Capable of remaining in a standing position, either stationary or walking, for duration of shift.

Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; including working from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding;

to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and reach in all directions, often overhead.

Move through various areas of the hotel, including mechanical rooms, guest rooms, public areas, and outside areas, with frequent and repeated climbing up and down stairs, throughout duration of shift.

Capable of frequent and repeated lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, and extending arms fully.

Able to strictly observe and adhere to all safety regulations and standards, and that they are being followed throughout the hotel.

Professional Licenses / Certifications :

Relevant training or painting certifications are a plus.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

At least one (1) year of experience in commercial drywall, painting and wallcovering background, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting, is required.

Experience and safety knowledge using basic hand and power tools.

Grooming / Uniforms :

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.

Specific uniform guidelines and / or required articles of clothing will be explained to you as a part of the orientation process.
