Job Summary

The CAD Drafter II is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate and detailed revision-controlled CAD drawings and models of production line layouts, equipment, tooling, and fixturing.

This role requires a high level of proficiency in CAD software, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The CAD Drafter II will work closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to support the development of manufacturing lines and the production of innovative medical devices.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities :

  • Create and Update CAD Drawings : Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models based on design specifications and requirements.
  • Support Engineering Team : Collaborate with engineers to refine designs, ensure manufacturability, and optimize production processes.
  • Documentation : Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all CAD drawings, including version control and change orders.
  • Quality Assurance : Conduct thorough reviews and inspections of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work with manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
  • Continuous Improvement : Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance CAD processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Compliance : Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and guidelines, such as ISO 13485 and FDA requirements.
  • Technical Support : Provide technical support and guidance to junior drafters and other team members as needed.

Travel :

Travel may be required to attend meetings or visit manufacturing sites.

Education and Experience :

Associate’s degree in CAD, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a CAD Drafter, preferably within the medical device or related regulated industry.

Experience with medical device design and / or manufacturing and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Technical Proficiency : Advanced proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent. Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems is a plus.
  • Proficient knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Attention to Detail : Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation.
  • Analytical Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess design specifications and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration : Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for medical devices, such as ISO 13485 and FDA guidelines.
  • Time Management : Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Able to communicate and coordinate tasks through to implementation.

Work Environment :

  • Occasional lifting of up to 35 kilograms may be required.
  • Prolonged sitting may be required.
