Description :
A Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation with consideration of the aging process, human development stages and cultural diversity.
Directs and coordinates all nursing care for monitored / medical / surgical patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards and hospital policy and procedures.
Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Scheduled workdays and times may vary and will include weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care defined within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
- Collects and documents pertinent health data using appropriate assessment techniques using a systematic and ongoing process utilizing interventions appropriated for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Analyzes and documents diagnoses / patient problems in a manner that facilitates the determination of expected outcomes and plan of care in collaboration with patient, significant others, and other health care personal.
- Identifies realistic and attainable outcomes individualized to the patient’s present and potential capabilities.
- Develops an individualized plan of care that prescribes intervention to attain expected outcomes.
- Evaluates and documents the patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Utilizes ongoing assessment data to revise diagnoses / patient problems, outcomes and plan of care as needed.
- Notifies physician / surgeon of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Communicates with co-workers on a timely basis including end of shift updates.
- Makes clinical decisions and sets priorities related to workload management based on clinical knowledge and individual patient needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Displays accountability for actions and decisions for the total patient care process.
- Completes assigned daily duties.
- Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of equipment, work, and storage areas.
- Accepts reassignment to other units if necessary.
- Follows expected work practices.
- Displays thoroughness and accuracy of work.
- Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.
- Well organized, accepts assignments willingly and accomplishes them efficiently.
- Anticipates problems and suggests solutions.
- Help as needed with duties not specifically assigned.
- Works steadily and always keeps busy.
- Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate, teach and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups : Infant, Pediatric / adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric
- Ability to work well with a diverse work team.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Displays knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures

- Ability to utilize the nursing process in provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients and / or significant others.
- Possession of a genuine interest and concern for patient population that is served.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides ongoing direction to the Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants assisting in direct patient care to meet the workload needs of the unit through an initiative-taking team approach.
Requirements :
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing
- Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.
- Proficient oral and written communication
- 1-year general hospital experience helpful
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Hold and maintain RN Illinois Licensure
- CPR certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
- Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
- Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
- Frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in well light, climate-controlled setting
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, hypodermic / IV needles, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
- The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
CORPORATE COMPLIANCE
Receives training and / or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct.
Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and / or abuse.
