The Marcia D. Smith School, operated by Community Support Services, Inc. (CSS), is seeking a full time Special Education Teacher to work in a community based, non-public school with adolescents disabled by autism.
Each student has a highly individualized plan with intensive support.
Focus of curriculum is on functional work and life skills in community environments with an emphasis on transition to adult services.
Applicants must meet state certification requirements for a provisional Maryland Teacher’s Certificate or a standard Maryland Teacher certification in special education 1-8 or 6-adult.
Experience with autism and transition planning preferred.
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for :
Developing the IEP and oversee implementation of the plan in coordination with parents, students, behavioral staff, medical staff, MCPS and related services
- Providing meaningful and functional, age-appropriate instruction with appropriate adaptations and materials
- Communicating with individuals, families, therapists, medical staff and behavioral staff to foster interdisciplinary team cohesiveness.
- Collecting regular data on students’ IEP progress and supervising collection of behavioral data.
- Creating daily and weekly schedules to incorporate curriculum, outings and special events.
- Supervise and evaluate instructional associates (aides) providing direct support services to the students
- The Marcia D. Smith School provides special education programming twelve months per year. The day school program follows the MCPS school calendar.
The residential program provides education 24 hours per day. CSS provides adult and children's services in addition to the school, and resources and expertise is shared and coordinated between services.
CSS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities residing within Montgomery County, Maryland.
CSS was founded in 1994 and began its mission by working collaboratively with individuals, families, and other lead agencies to design and implement new models of service.
In addition to operating the Marcia D. Smith school, CSS provides community based residential, day, employment and recreation services.
