The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard.
It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years.
Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

What you will do :
The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties :
- Assists in the planning and implementation of process trials in the major production areas including Finished Products, Pulp Mill and Power & Recovery
- Leads Continuous Improvement projects designed to improve / increase productivity, process efficiency, chemical use reduction, cost reduction and new product development.
- Assists with the development of process Work System including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Operator Rounds, Flow Charting, Trouble-Cause-Correction (TCC’s), Lockout / Tagout Procedures, Training Materials, etc.
- Drives best practices in safe operations and ensure the safety of all operations, maintenance and support personnel.
- Proficient at extracting and analyzing data with knowledge of Plant Information System (PI), Proficy, ParcView or other data historian system.
- Must be a team player and function well with other process groups including Operations, Maintenance, Process Control, Project Engineering, Safety, Environmental and Finance
- Ability to work with chemical and equipment suppliers to research process equipment, obtain quotes and make recommendations for purchase.
- Must be a self-starter, self-directed, self-motivator and learn to effectively multi-task.
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Excellence process or DMAIC training would be a plus.
- Provides engineering support during scheduled or annual outages.

What you will need :
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Pulp and Paper Science
- 5-8 years experience preferred
- Several intern rotations or prior experience in a Pulp & Paper Mill or other heavy manufacturing industry with a 24 / 7 production atmosphere
- Employee will also be assigned to one of six Weekend Duty teams working weekends on a 6-week rotation with Technical responsibilities.
- Employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally that may include night shifts and be very punctual while doing so.
Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 9-hours
- Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time
- Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
- Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
- Exposure to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
- High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises
- Ability to work a 9-hour day with attendance required at the shift turnover meetings at 6 : 30 AM as well as afternoon update meetings.
- Participates on weekend duty team on a 6-week rotation with technical responsibilities.

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors.
