Category Manager – MRO & Indirect Procurement (Contract)
Downtown Houston, TX – Onsite, 5 days / week
Overview
Our client, a global organization in the petrochemical sector, is seeking a Category Manager to support the MRO and Indirect Procurement function during a critical transition period. This role will help bridge operational gaps, lead sourcing strategy, and support ongoing SAP integration activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on strategic sourcing professional with the ability to operate tactically while driving measurable results across cost, performance, and supplier engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute category strategies for MRO, capital projects, and indirect spend, aligning with global procurement goals.
- Partner closely with operations, engineering, and finance to identify and implement cost savings, process improvements, and supplier innovations.
- Lead sourcing initiatives from RFx through contract execution, negotiating favorable terms and ensuring supply continuity.
- Serve as a key participant in SAP user acceptance testing (UAT) and ERP system integration (currently SAP, KimPac, and IFS).
- Create and process purchase orders as needed, ensuring compliance and transactional accuracy.
- Manage supplier relationships, evaluate vendor performance, and mitigate risk through data-driven decision-making.
- Support active projects such as industrial gases, landscaping, and capital improvements, ensuring continuity as existing team members transition.
- Contribute to cross-functional collaboration across corporate and plant sites
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field required.5+ years of procurement or category management (MRO or indirect categories)Proven background in both strategic and tactical sourcingStrong analytical and negotiation skills; experience managing supplier performanceProficiency in SAP, Power BI, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).Experience with ERP transitions or integrations preferred.Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and suppliers.Work Environment & Culture
