Summary
Perform laboratory assignments including maintenance and calibration of equipment and laboratory testing; or work in two or more areas of the laboratory.
Assists scientists or engineers with formulating and testing, or other activities. Perform simultaneous assignments in accordance with written procedures, manuals, and other instructions.
Utilize a variety of laboratory equipment and tools. Areas of specialization include testing and analysis for mechanical testing, chemical testing, physical testing, machining, and others.
Participate in team meetings and problem solving sessions as required. Provide laboratory duties of a more difficult and / or complex nature.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up equipment and laboratory procedures; Check and refill fluids, heat ovens, etc.
- Obtain materials / supplies required for work tasks.
- Maintain work area(s) in a clean and organized condition.
- Calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including documentation.
- Perform sample / test preparations including locating, labeling and verifying test materials, dissolution and filtering, and instrument set-ups.
- Perform laboratory tests, following established documented procedures.
- Enter data into computer program; review output ensuring accuracy; verify and document test results, noting abnormal data and send information to supervisor for review.
- Update test log ensuring accuracy and proper tracking of samples.
- Perform job tasks according to schedules, using established safe methods and processes.
- Work with others to achieve an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Assist in the training of other Laboratory Associates.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings.
- Perform other related laboratory duties as assigned.

- Ability to utilize / operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software.
- Position requires a working ability to read and understand laboratory procedures.
- Knowledge of safety techniques, practices and procedures for handling hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.
Education and Qualifications
Entry) Technician, Test Lab (TEST1ATE) High school degree or GED required.Two plus years’ experience preferred in a laboratory or similar environment;
or two plus years’ experience preferred working in a carbon composite manufacturing environment; or an Associate of Arts degree in a lab science or closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
Personal computer experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word required.
- Technician, Test Lab levels 1B to level 5 follow progressive requirements as defined by each level competency.
- This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations.
Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin.

Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities.
Position frequently requires the ability to make quick decisions related to the area’s processes. Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills, perform basic mathematical computations, write legibly, follow directions and to understand and apply work specifications.
The ability to hear, speak, use hands / fingers and the repetitive motions of hands / wrists are frequent. Ability to seldom lift 40 pounds.
Ability to use mechanical lifts. Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight. Ability to be physically mobile and to stand for extended periods.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time, including wearing a respirator and maintaining respirator fit.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Exposure to a wide range of temperatures. Work with potentially hazardous materials and chemicals. Required to wear personal protective equipment at times.
Position requires the ability to work a rotating or fixed non-standard schedule which includes weekends. Position frequently requires work in excess of 40 hours in a week.
Position requires the ability to move throughout the entire facility area.
