Make Your Mark in Environmental, Retail Casualty Underwriting

AIG is seeking a motivated Underwriter to contribute to our industry leading Environmental, Admitted Casualty team. AIG's strong brand in the market has provided for strong growth and thus the need for underwriting resources. We consistently provide clients with innovative products, use of technology, and a world-class Multinational platform. Our underwriters constantly deliver in an ever-changing marketplace and world. Areas of focus will be around our core coverages; General Liability, Contingent Auto Liability, Foreign Voluntary Workers Compensation, Accident & Health, Property and Kidnap / Ransom.

In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing an existing renewal book with assistance to other team members who will solicit new business opportunities. This role includes constant interaction with top nationwide, regional, local and wholesale brokers and insureds in the Small and Medium Enterprise space all the way to Fortune 500 companies. Through this role, underwriters gain experience in a wide variety of coverages, client industries and specializations.

How You Will Create an Impact

• Evaluating, prioritizing and selecting submissions to be underwritten.
• Identifying risk exposures, special or common hazards, claims experience and appropriate controls.
• Analyzing claims and quantifying losses.
• Adhering to guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks.
• Ensuring underwriting files and services standards and compliance guidelines are adhered to on assigned accounts.
• Offering coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.
• Capturing market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts.
• Begin demonstrating technical expertise with product(s) in the Admitted Casualty portfolio.
• Demonstrating strong business acumen, financial and analytical skills, and critical thinking skills which lead to confident decision making and judgment.
• Demonstrating success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships.
• Multi-tasking, prioritizing and time management skills.
• Appropriately balancing changing priorities based upon underwriting needs and performing within time constraints with a high volume of work.
• Working with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
• Selling and negotiating to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company.
• Making presentations and communicating risk appetite and Admitted Casualty value proposition articulately to brokers and clients.
• Contributing to development of producer strategies.
• Developing and maintaining a submission pipeline sufficient to achieve overall production and business mix objective.
• Providing superior customer service to brokers and clients (internal & external).
