THE OPPORTUNITY
The Center is seeking a full-time Principal Research Associate. The Principal Research Associate will be working with other members of the Research Department on projects related to schools, the criminal justice system, Latin America, restorative justice, and tribal reservations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Lead a multi-person project team, including project-specific supervision of full-time research staff and / or research assistants as needed;
- Shepherd projects from initial proposal creation, to research implementation, product design, creation, and completion, also including : Identify potential funding opportunities;
- Develop well-framed research questions;Plan and implement appropriate quantitative or qualitative designs that address the articulated questions;
Bring expertise and experience to bear regarding when and why different types of research designs and sampling techniques are appropriate, in either / both quantitative and qualitative studies (e.
- g., RCT, quasi-experiment, exploratory study, random sample, non-probability sample, etc.);Oversee the implementation of a scientifically rigorous analytic plan (including the selection of appropriate statistical strategies);
- Conduct rigorous quantitative research using SPSS or other statistical software, including cleaning, coding, and analyzing data;
- Develop strong and rigorous instruments and tools, as appropriate; Understand potential threats both to internal and external validity that result from design and analytic plan decisions and devising strategies to mitigate threats to validity where possible;
- Manage (or assist in management of) complex budgets, timelines, and staff workloads;
- Author or edit well-crafted and well-written products for multiple audiences (researchers, policymakers, and / or practitioners);
- Coordinate and communicate professionally and appropriately with grant managers or funder contacts;
- Oversee all human subjects’ requirements, for both institution review boards (IRBs) and funders;
- Identify policy implications or recommendations that follow from the data;
- Serve as an Administrator for Center for Justice Innovation’s IRB, supporting day-to-day operations of the IRB, including tracking the status of all applications, maintaining records, leading communication with applicants and board members, and working with IRB chairs to ensure compliance with all federal regulations;
- Listen to and communicate effectively with criminal justice stakeholders from other agencies;
- Respond to internal and external requests for data support;
- Serve as the public face for all current and future Latin America-based projects;
- Additional tasks as necessary.
Qualifications : Minimum of a Master's degree in sociology, criminology, or a closed related field. Additional qualifications include :
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Research Associate, Senior Research Associate, or similar occupation;
- Certification in research with human subjects through CITI or U.S. Department of Health and Human Services;
- Quantitative fieldwork and analysis experience;
- Strong knowledge of research design and methods;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Skilled communicator able to work in multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community;
- Domestic travel to tribal locations nationwide;
- International travel will primarily be to South and Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia), and the Caribbean, primarily through projects funded by the Organization of American States;
- Frequency of travels depends on projects assigned.

Compensation : The compensation range for this position is $74,589 - $119,000 and is commensurate with experience.
