Definition of Position :

Manages the daily operations in accounting, accounts payable, fixed assets and financial reporting. Performs various cost accounting functions, analyzes cost records, assists in preparation of budgets and completes Foundation, Medical Service Corporation, and Hospital financial statements.

Coordinates the annual financial audit with independent auditors. Ensures that the corporate tax returns are prepared for mailing by due dates.

Completes the necessary tax reports that meet Federal & State reporting regulations. Provide the necessary training and education to accounting staff necessary for maintaining skills and compliance with hospital and accounting policy procedures and standards.

Responsibilities :

Essential Job Functions :

  • Ensures that audit schedules and designated balance sheet reconciliations are provided to independent auditors in a timely fashion.
  • Prepares the federal and state tax returns for Good Shepherd Health Care System, Good Shepherd Medical Service Corp, and Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation.
  • Demonstrates good leadership and incorporates guest relation standards into daily interdepartmental activities.
  • Provides analysis of organizations income, expenditures and capital asset values with comparisons to previous periods. Makes recommendations concerning methods of reducing operating costs and increasing revenue.
  • Plans, directs, supervises and coordinates functions and activities in Accounting.
  • Evaluates procedures to improve methods of reducing costs of accounting operations, and improve work flow.
  • Assists Accounting Director with preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience : Minimum 5 years experience in a hospital accounting office as a staff accountant
  • Some knowledge of computerized financial systems in accounts payable and fixed assets.
  • Physical Requirements : Must be able to work under stress as multiple deadlines occur simultaneously. Must focus on listening as ideas are expressed and exchanged in varying noise levels.

May work over 8 hours and occasionally a weekend to meet goals & objectives. Must sit during extended periods on daily basis.

Must push or lift boxes on occasion.

Working Conditions : Inside environment protected from the weather. Working area shared by co-workers making cramped conditions.

Must be able to tune out variable noise interruptions. Subject to numerous customer inquiries daily.
