Assistive Technology Specialist

St. Coletta of Greater Washington is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and secondary disabilities.

We are currently seeking an Assistive Technology Specialist responsible for training students, teachers, parents, and school staff to utilize assistive technology resources to support the communication, safety and self-help needs of students with autism, intellectual and multiple disabilities to increase their independent functioning in school, home, and the community.

Examples of Essential Functions

Collaborate with teaching staff in developing a variety of assistive technology strategies to meet the educational needs of students within the classroom;

determines which assistive technology devices an individual student needs to access in order to participate in school activities and interact within the community.

  • Develop individual student assistive technology IEP goals and objectives.
  • Perform assistive technology evaluations for student as referred by members of the educational team.
  • Manage AT lab schedule and materials for student use; create activities on Intellitools classroom suite per theme for each house.
  • Attend IEP meetings and staffing to represent assistive technology; research, recommend, and order devices or software for student use.

Qualifications

Completion of bachelor’s degree program from an accredited university in special education, speech or occupational therapy;

certification in assistive technology required.

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of assistive technology including adaptive computer software and hardware such as voice output devices and adaptive equipment.
  • Knowledge of disabilities and the impact on function in school performance.
  • Considerable skill in how to train students to use voice output devices and assistive technology including hardware and software packages.

Salary : $75,000- $85,000
