Performs advanced technical work directing activities concerninginspecting, sampling, testing, and evaluating in an environmentalpollution control and or permitting program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science; and

Two or more years of experience in environmental inspection,sampling, testing or evaluation.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specificcompetencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Considerable knowledge of environmental inspection, samplingand collection methods.
  • Working knowledge of environmental data collection, recording, and laboratory equipment operation andmaintenance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and County environmental pollution control laws and regulations.
  • Skill in the use and operation of data collection, recording, andlaboratory equipment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activitiesdescribed below.

  • Oversees the operation of air monitoring equipment in Hillsborough County by performing routine quality assurance checks, maintenance, and calibrations to ensure sampling equipment complies with federal, state, and local regulations to collect accurate samples.
  • Maintains and repairs air monitoring equipment by troubleshooting problems with equipment, ordering replacement parts, and ensuring air monitoring equipment continues to operate as intended.
  • Maintains records, compiles reports, and tracks inventory / equipment in order to maintain compliance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Collects filters, sample cannisters, and other samples in order tobe processed by the lab.
  • Assists in maintaining an inventory of equipment stock (., spare parts and maintenance supplies) for emergencies, equipment failure, etc.
  • Operates various tools for equipment maintenance and repair, such as drills, saws, vices, electronic testing equipment, hand tools, air compressors, and air tools.
  • Performs basic inside and outside site maintenance at monitoring stations including weed eating, grass cutting, painting, etc.

  • Represents the agency as part of community outreach.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
