Job Description
PROGRAM ASSOCIATE-NATURE AND COMMUNITIES , MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI), to serve as a high-level contributor to all research functions in the and assume primary responsibility for coordinating the partners in launching the work of the Nature and Communities Project in Peru and potentially other Latin American countries.
- Will collaborate with initiative partners in Peru, lead the development of research and academic agendas, and implement activities to materialize NCP’s vision and advance outputs in coordination with ESI faculty director and NCS research program director;
- develop, monitor, and ensure the progress of a work plan; coordinate fieldwork and participatory research activities with local partners, including the design of engagement activities, site visits and logistics, and mapping and identifying key actors and local priorities;
- participate designing, developing, and executing research projects within the larger scope, potentially in collaboration with a larger research team;
- provide guidance to UROP students, graduate research assistants, or summer / IAP fellows regarding interpretation of research results and review and critique reports and analysis;
author / co-author results and present findings in peer-reviewed journals / other publications; and prepare and present verbal / multimedia presentations at ESI meetings / workshops / conferences.
May contribute original ideas regarding research directions and / or methodologies; identify specific research needs; and carry out data gathering, analysis, and visualization.

Job Requirements
- REQUIRED : master’s in city planning or similar degree and experience conducting high-level research in the fields of environmental policy and planning, environmental conservation, local economic development, and community-based planning;
- at least two years’ related experience in a research environment (may include experience gained as a graduate student); ability to conduct original or collaborative scholarship;
and Spanish language fluency. PREFERRED : Portuguese language fluency.
