Job Overview : A law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Biopatent Counseling Associate Attorney with over four years of patent counseling and prosecution experience.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline and experience representing biotech companies and investors in various patent-related matters.
Duties :
- Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to clients in the biotech industry regarding patent portfolio development and life cycle management.
- Conduct non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and intellectual property (IP) due diligence.
- Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Assist in negotiating and drafting licensing agreements and other technology transfer agreements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Requirements :
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in patent counseling and prosecution.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Experience representing biotech companies and investors in strategic international patent portfolio development and life cycle management.
- Prior pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Education and Certifications :
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Admission to the State Bar of North Carolina.
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

- Strong understanding of patent law and regulations, particularly in the biotech industry.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
