The Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) School of Architecture (SoA) is looking for individuals with a strong background in architecture, engineering and / or construction management that elevate the discipline through research work, scholarly work, artistic work, and / or professional practice.

The School welcomes educators and practitioners to contribute to the pedagogy of a dynamic school of architecture. We have openings for adjunct faculty to teach in undergraduate and graduate courses.

These positions require a bachelor's or advanced degree in architecture or related discipline. Preference will be given to those that have demonstrated expertise in the topics currently needing instructors (see course descriptions).

Course Descriptions

Computation and Fabrication Courses : The aim of these courses is to teach computational skills and thinking across a variety of topics.

These include computer aided design and modeling, parametric design, digital fabrication, interaction design and media and machine learning.

School Description

The School of Architecture is committed to providing a deep immersion in the discipline of Architecture. We have set ourselves the goal of preparing our students to meet the major challenges facing architectural design and the built environment in the 21st century;

namely climate change, artificial intelligence and social justice. We place design and technological competency at the center of our pedagogy across the Schools many programs, including the B.

Arch, M. Arch, post-professional Master's (both MS and studio-based) and the doctoral programs.

Our student body totals over 400 undergraduate and graduate students, and is situated within the College of Fine Arts, alongside the Schools of Art, Design, Drama and Music.

Our university is classified as a R1 : Doctoral University Highest Research Activity institution. As such, a wide range of transdisciplinary educational and research opportunities can be created at the school, college and / or university levels.

Our school philosophy is to provide deep immersion in the discipline of architecture, intensified by a university culture of interdisciplinary innovation and creative inquiry.

Our undergraduate and graduate degree programs prepare students to be excellent, discipline-defining design-thinkers in diverse global contexts.

Though each of our students graduate with intensive architecture knowledge, no two graduates leave with the same education.
