Description
A Civil Engineer II will beresponsible for assisting in various aspects of the Civilengineering portion of a project while working under thesupervision and guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer.
Typicalresponsibilities include tasks associated with designing landdevelopment projects. This person will work in standalone andmultidiscipline design teams supervised by senior engineers andproject managers on projects of all sizes.
General responsibilities include butare not limited to the following :
- Performing various aspects of Civildesign as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer including conceptualstudies design analyses calculations site design for buildings orsubdivisions design for infrastructure projects and design relatedto a business development activity such as a response to a Requestfor Proposal (RFP).
- Preparation of programming documents schematic documentsdesign development documents and construction documents asdirected
- Coordination and communication withdesign team members to ensure the Civil design details integrateproperly with the work of all other project disciplines
- Preparation of marketing and presentation materials asdirected
- Performing Civil services associatedwith the bidding process including preparing addenda and amendmentsand opening and tabulating bids as directed
- Performing Civil services associated with theconstruction phase including field visits answering RFIs reviewingshop drawings and preparing record drawings as directed
- Complying with quality control policies andprocedures
- Learn and implement department andcompany standards
- Develop analysis and designskills
- Participating in team meetings andcoordinating efforts with other team members
- Working with responding to and taking direction fromSenior Engineers Project Managers and Design Managers
- Working with a team of architects engineers interiordesigners and landscape architects
Project responsibilities include butare not limited to the following :
- Perform tasks as directed by senior staff
- Responsible for document organization andclarity
- Responsible for discipline drawingcoordination
- Completing sections and detailsproduced to a schematiclevel of completion by theEngineer
- Creating schematiclevel site layoutand grading plans for projects of low to moderatecomplexity
- Creating schematic level roadwaylayout and grading plans
- Development of manualcalculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and designpurposes
- Participate in developing amodel of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projectswhere modeling is a requirement
- Assist with preparing LEED templates on projects whereLEED certification is a requirement
- Adhere toproject budget and schedule
Education Technology andExperience
- Graduate of an ABETaccredited 4 5 or 6yearengineering program in one of the following disciplines :
- Civil Engineering
- Civiland Environmental Engineering
- CivilEnvironmental and Infrastructure Engineering
- Civil Engineering Technology
- Postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering orCivil Engineeringrelated degree may be given additionalconsideration
- Completed or be in a position tocomplete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other staterequirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.
- A Civil Engineer II should have 24years of specific postgraduation Civil engineeringexperience that includes experience with designing a site roadwaysubdivision or utilities;
development of manual calculations andanalytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes;development of construction documents (drawings and specifications)coordination with other design team members and experience inresponding to construction phase queries and submittals.
- Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36months of being hired.
- Understanding ofsustainable design principles and design practices and pursuingLEED AP accreditation is desirable
- Additional certifications such as CDT CCS orCCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the professionand an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design anddocumentation process
- Active membership in NSPE ASCE or other relatedprofessional organizations is desirable
- A Civil Engineer II should be able to effectively utilizecurrent company software programs for word processing email andinformation management.
- Working familiaritywith design and production software to a point of being able toutilize the software in the development of project documents andinteract with other project team members in their use of thesoftware is highly desirable.
