Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the CEO.
The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the brewery, including financial planning, budgeting, reporting and banking relationships.
This role will play an equivalent role to other members within the ELT in shaping the companys strategy, driving profitable growth, and leading the finance department and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy and Planning
- Collaborate with the ELT to develop and implement financial strategies that support the brewerys long-term growth objectives
- Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee long-term financial forecasting
- Analyze financial data to provide insights on business performance and recommend actions to improve profitability
- Evaluate and pursue opportunities for raising capital, if needed, to fund expansion or new initiatives
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the ELT / CEO
- Manage cash flow, investments, and banking relationships
- Coordinate annual audits and ensure timely filing of all required financial reports
Operations and Risk Management
- Oversee the brewerys financial IT / ERP systems and implement improvements as needed
- Manage the companys insurance portfolio and risk mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements including those specific to the craft brewing industry
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
Finance Team Leadership
- Manage and develop the finance team, including accounting, procurement and other assigned employees
- Collaborate with other department heads to provide financial guidance and support for their operations
- Ensure the finance team is appropriately informed and involved in the relevant business matters, strategies that enable them to perform in their respective roles and responsibilities
Industry-Specific Responsibilities
- Stay informed about financial trends and benchmarks in the craft brewing industry
- Collaborate with sales to optimize pricing strategies that optimize growth and profitability
- Analyze the profitability of various brands, package formats and SKUs to make recommendations for ELT consideration
- Manage relationships with key suppliers and evaluate opportunities for cost savings for ELT recommendation after conferring with involved departments
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role
- Experience in the craft brewing or beverage industry is highly desirable
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to diverse audiences
- Proven track record of implementing financial systems and improving processes
- Must maintain an organized work environment
