Reportingdirectly to Highline s campus principal our teachers are the heartof our organization the ones who make the mission come alive forour students.

We expect our teachers to be caring about the wholechild great lesson planners strong and nurturing classroommanagement and excellent collaborators with teammates and families.

We look for people with good communication skills dedication to doeverything it takes to make a difference for each child and agrowthmindset.

PositionSchedule : Teachers are paid year round ona salary. Their student contact days (177) and their professionaldevelopment days and parent conference days adds up to a 195 daywork year.

However the work teachers do outside those days planningreflecting and pursuing professional growth is also an importantpart of being an excellent teacher.

Teachers are expected to be oncampus ready for students by 7 : 30 am and to stay until 4 : 00 eachday school is in session and to 4 : 30 on Wednesdays when we haveearly release days for students followed by teacher P.

D. orplanning meetings. There are two weeks of professional developmentevery summer before school begins which is part of the accountedprofessional developmentdays.

Highlinehas a commitment to a liberal arts education which includes ArtMusic Spanish and P.E. instruction for our students.

We have highexpectations for all of our learners with an understanding thatsome learners need more or different instruction.

We havePerformance Group teachers at each grade level which enable us togive smaller group instruction for the core content areas of mathand language arts.

Additionally we have a robust interventionprogram with additional supports available as students show theyneed them. We are a fully inclusive organization for students withspecial needs who are integrated into the general educationclassrooms.

We have a character education program designed byHighline called Reach. This teaches practices and celebrates theReach values of responsibility empowerment aspiration citizenshipand honesty.

All our students are taught to Reach Out to supportand care about their classmates and community Reach In to learnabout themselves and reflect about their learning and Reach Up totheir very best academic achievement.

ClassroomTeacher Responsibilities : Classroomteachers collaborate with their grade level peers to provide arigorous and yet supportive curriculum for every student in theirgrade level.

Teachers are expected to use data to monitor studentlearning make decisions about grouping and to determine next stepsin lesson planning.

Teachers will also be expected to meet in datateams and reflect upon student progress and support other teachersin interpreting their data.

Classroom teachers are expected to meetat least weekly with their team to coplan their lessons and unitsand may also be expected to meet with special education orinterventionist teachers to further support all students.

Allteachers on the grade level team will have a performance group ofstudents in both language arts and math subject areas for whichthey are responsible for all planning and instruction.

Classroomteachers are responsible for teaching the classes groups orprograms as assigned. Teachers are encouraged to help each otherwith lesson and unit planning and may divide that work up as theysee fit as a team.

If a teacher has a Homeroom they are expected toenter attendance each day into IC and to enter grades into theschool learning management system based on standards alignedassessments.

If a classroom teacher has a Teaching Assistant theyare expected to provide the Teaching Assistant with appropriateassignments for students and tasks in the classroom and alsoguidance for how to work well with all students in theirclassroom.

Classroomteachers set the tone with their students each day and set up thecommunity expectations for their students. Classroom teachers areexpected to build positive relationships with their students andalso hold them to high expectations.

Classroom teachers shouldmanage their classes with positive proactive systems and strongrituals and routines. They are also expected to seek out moreinformation and support from other staff members (the SIT teamadmin other grade level teachers etc.

if a student is not doingwell either behaviorally or academically. At Highline we believe ina student s first approach at all times and the teacher is thefoundation of thiswork.

Classroomteachers are typically the main point of contact for studentfamilycommunication. Teachers are expected to set up a website and / orsend home a regular newsletter about the work of the class helpcreate community by engaging their parents through inviting them toparticipate as volunteers or in class events (such as a potluck oran author celebration) and to build relationships with familiesthrough phone calls and both formal and informal meetings.

Homeroomteachers should work to ensure all families attend the studentconferences held twice a year. Homeroom teachers are expected toshow up for at least three evening or weekend events such as themusic performances for their grade level the Cultural Fair and theFall festival.

Homeroom teachers are expected to help plan and leadat least one event for families during the year such as a parenteducation meeting or a student demonstration oflearning.

Homeroomteachers are expected to attend all professional development asassigned by their principal and participate with respect andattention.

They are expected to participate as a member of at leastone network school board or parent group committee to support theongoing work of improving our school and supporting schoolculture.
