What is the Clinical Float Pool and what to expect?

The Clinical Float Pool is a newly developed department for the Health Care District (HCD) of Palm Beach County. We have four major business units that utilize similar skill sets in practice : Lakeside Medical Center, The Edward J.

Healey Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics, and School Health. The Clinical Float Pool is a department of clinical staff that are willing and able to cross train to assist with covering staffing needs in 2 or more of these business unit and they are incentivized financially utilizing a tiered approach based on the number of business units the employee works.

We will offer training in each area while onboarding initially and if you would like to grow a tier after initial training.

This position provides safe and effective nursing care and treatment to patients in the Emergency Services Department, Intensive Care Unit, Med Surg / PCU, Pediatrics, Clinic Environment, School Health and Long-Term Care.

Employees are part of a managed care team and work collaboratively with ancillary personnel in the provision of proper medical services and treatment.

This position is responsible for assessing the patient, planning the care and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards and medical instructions.

This position provides nursing care and services to patients seeking medical attention and prevents further deterioration of patient’s health in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards and medical instructions.

Responsibilities

Lakeside Medical Center : Specific Duties and Responsibilities Acute Care

The role involves delivering nursing care tailored to the specific needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

This includes adhering to established hospital standards in various departments such as Emergency Care, ICU, Med-Surg / PCU, and Pediatrics.

Patient safety is paramount, and compliance with JCAHO Safety Goals and National Patient Safety Goals is a priority, following hospital policies to ensure safety.

The commitment to the Healthcare District's mission, philosophy, and standards is evident in interactions with staff, physicians, visitors, and patients, providing courteous and respectful service.

Active involvement in the orientation and mentoring of new staff members contributes to a welcoming and supportive work environment.

Continual professional development is maintained through competency upkeep, training, and continuing education.

  • Delegation of care to LPNs, CNAs, Paramedics, and Unit Clerks is performed with supervision and feedback to ensure high-quality care.
  • Protocols such as patient identification, Universal Protocol, and EMTALA guidelines are diligently followed. The role actively contributes to positive changes within the hospital, promoting efficiency and safety.

Edward J. Healy Rehabilitation and Nursing Center : Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing residents, documenting problems, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
  • Implementing care in accordance with assessed needs and medical conditions.
  • Completing assessments and documentation for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Obtaining and transcribing physician orders, ensuring compliance with facility policies.
  • Ordering and administering medications accurately.
  • Reviewing clinical reports.
  • Assigning aspects of resident care to qualified personnel.
  • Supervising and evaluating direct resident care, taking appropriate action when necessary.
  • Reporting subpar employee performance to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assisting with C.N.A.s and L.P.N.s performance evaluations.
  • Encouraging resident participation in activities and facilitating their attendance.
  • Administering medications and therapeutic treatments per care plans.
  • Assisting residents with personal care needs.
  • Responding promptly to call lights.
  • Managing administrative tasks, including record-keeping.
  • Charting vital signs, food and liquid intake, and related data.
  • Providing complex nursing care based on physician orders.
  • Ensuring patient safety during medical and therapeutic procedures.
  • Notifying attending physicians / APRNs of changes in resident conditions.
  • Informing family / HC surrogates of condition changes as required.
  • Reporting and assessing unusual occurrences and incidents.
  • Accompanying physicians / APRNs on rounds.
  • Conducting visual rounds at shift changes and providing end-of-shift reports.
  • Maintaining controlled drug security and accuracy.
  • Acting as a preceptor and assisting with nursing staff orientation.
  • Ensuring emergency equipment is functional and documented.
  • Participating in care planning and conferences.
  • Maintaining equipment per facility and infection control policies.

Primary Care Department Clinics : Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Nursing Care Provider ensures quality patient care across all age groups (infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) by adhering to established clinic and emergency care standards.

They employ the Relationship and Results Oriented Healthcare Model, following best practice bundles.

  • Dedicated to the clinic's mission, philosophy, and policies, they extend courteous service to all individuals, including staff, physicians, visitors, and patients.
  • Role involves mentoring and orienting new staff, maintaining competencies through training, and facilitating a supportive work environment.
  • Actively identify opportunities to enhance patient care processes, optimize supply utilization, and promote cost-saving practices.

Ensuring patient safety and infection control, they manage equipment and document efficiently.

  • The Nursing Care Provider takes a leadership role in implementing positive changes and reports patient, physician, and visitor feedback in line with clinic policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medication reconciliation, assessment, education, and pain management.
  • Additionally, maintain patient records with privacy and adhere to regulatory guidelines. Communication skills, teamwork, and handoff effectiveness are integral aspects of their role.
  • Contribute to performance improvement and participate in departmental quality improvement activities.
  • The Nursing Care Provider also fulfills responsibilities related to hazardous waste disposal and outreach to underserved populations in Palm Beach County, as directed by Clinic Administration.

School Health : Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position provides skilled professional nursing care and treatment. While working in School Health, this position implements the medical components of an integrated school health program, reporting and functioning under the auspices of the Health Care District School Health Nursing Supervisor for all clinical and employee issues.
  • The Clinical Float Pool Registered Nurse will be under the general supervision of the school- based Principal for non-clinical matters.
  • The role of the Clinical Float Pool Registered Nurse is to advance the well-being, academic success and life-long achievement of the students.
  • The Clinical Float Pool Registered Nurse will individualize care to students providing nursing diagnoses and interventions for students in cooperation with the parent(s) or guardian.
  • Employees in this class perform duties in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards, and medical instructions.

Qualifications

Education :

Position Qualifications :

Nursing degree from an accredited nursing school required.

Experience :

Two (2) years of acute nursing experience as an RN preferred. A combination of Med Surg / PCU, Tele and Peds desired for some Business Units / Hospital Departments.

Critical Care desired for the Emergency Services Department and Intensive Care Units at Lakeside Medical Center.

Certification :

Current CPR certification required, ACLS and PALS required upon hire. Advanced certification such as CEN / CCRN preferred Cardiac Proficiency Certification preferred.

Licensure :

State of Florida, Registered Nurse license required.
