General Summary :
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is searching for a highly motivated cell and molecular biology expert to join the Human Disease Modeling and Mechanisms team in the Human Assay Technologies department at the Boston Research site.
The successful applicant will work with a cross-functional team to develop and utilize disease relevant cell models to crack disease biology, enable mechanism of action studies and functionally validate novel therapeutics.
The scientist will support the design of genetic variant libraries for arrayed or pooled screening pipelines, design and execute assays for high throughput assessment of compound mechanism of action and target engagement studies, and support analysis of NGS-based readouts.
This role will require a creative thinker to propose innovative strategies using cutting edge technologies to tackle therapeutic mechanism of action studies for challenging diseases.
The successful applicant will liaise with disease project teams and collaborate closely with other functional groups. Exceptional communication and collaborative skills are required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Design of genetic variant libraries for arrayed or pooled screening pipelines.
- Implement the use of novel cutting-edge technologies for therapeutic mechanism of action and compound-target engagement studies.
- Support analysis of NGS-based readouts and be capable of writing custom codes to analyze data independently.
- Develop and screen cell-based assays to address disease relevant mechanistic questions.
- Collaborate closely with project leaders and functional leaders to deliver on project goals with aggressive timelines.
- Present data to research teams and site leadership in a clear and compelling manner.
Knowledge and Skills :
- Hands on cell culture experience is required.
- Extensive molecular biology experience including experience with NGS and computational analysis of data.
- Ability to write custom analytical pipelines.
- Excellent record keeping and documentation skills required.
- Excellent troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently are required.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.

Education and Experience :
Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines with 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Prior experience in computational genomics.
