POSITION : District Athletic / Activities Director / Transportation Director

REPORTS TO : Superintendent and works in cooperation with Principals

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION :

The District Athletic Director provides administrative leadership in planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of interscholastic athletic programs for the middle and high schools.

The District Athletic Director promotes extracurricular athletic activity that fosters skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students and adults.

The essential function of the position within the organization is to direct student transportation services for the district.

The position is responsible for supervising assigned staff, ensuring students arrive to school and home safely, overseeing bus fleet management, and performing related administrative and supervisory tasks as assigned.

The position is also responsible for overall white fleet management, including overall inventory, purchasing, and maintenance.

The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • New Mexico Administrator License is required
  • 3-5 years of experience as a head coach preferred
  • Valid New Mexico Coaching License
  • Knowledge of the overall operation of athletic / activity programs
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of driving or transportation management experience in a school district transportation department;

previous supervisory experience is preferred

Requires a valid state driver’s license and CDL license with proper endorsements (or eligible to gain CDL with proper endorsements)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop and foster a mission and vision for the district's activity programs that are aligned with the district's academic mission and vision.
  • Set goals for the district’s activity programs and continually monitor the achievement of the goals with the Principals.
  • Supervises and evaluates all coaches in collaboration with the head coach.
  • Develops and distributes appropriate athletic / activity procedure manuals which shall include, but not be limited to : a coach's handbook and an athlete handbook.
  • Responsible for administrating all extra and co-curricular policies and procedures working within the confines of the rules and by-laws of NMAA and district policy.
  • Development and Implementation of summer programs for all participants.
  • Makes recommendations for all athletic personnel assignments.
  • Coordinates, monitors and recommends school sponsored fund-raising events according to school district policy.
  • Provides pre-service and in-service programs for each school year for district athletic / activity staff members.
  • Sportsmanship and citizenship liaison; community relations, liaison between coaches, district and booster club(s).
  • Enforces policies and procedures contained in the handbook for extra / co-curricular activities, Truth or Consequences School Board Policy and NMAA regulations.
  • Serves as the primary advocate for the extra / co-curricular activities.
  • Assures that athletic opportunities for boys and girls are equivalent (Title IX).
  • Develop a MOU with the booster clubs to clarify Title IX requirements.
  • Works cooperatively with students, faculty, parents, community members, and other administrative personnel of the Truth or Consequences School District.
  • Promote student athletes and district activities through media, banners, etc.
  • On call 24-7 for route bus breakdowns, inclement weather, and other transportation-related issues.
  • Responsible for covering bus routes as a driver when short staffed.
  • Supervise 25+ DOT bus drivers and 5+ NON-DOT bus aides.
  • Maintain personnel records, schedule training, conduct evaluations, and mediate conflicts.

Job Type : Full-time

Pay : $55,620.00 - $145,745.00 per year
