The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek board-certified / eligible general internists to join the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) as clinician educators in our outpatient primary care sites located throughout the Columbus area.

Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

Interested candidates will work in an outpatient setting (with an opportunity for inpatient time, if interested) and demonstrate outstanding clinical care concurrent with teaching.

Opportunities for clinicians to engage in collaborative research and quality improvement also exist.

The Division is recognized for providing personalized comprehensive patient care, innovative educational opportunities for students and residents, and excellent scholarly work.

The Division is leading efforts for the medical center’s Primary Care First and post-acute COVID programs while also leading innovative services focused on delivery of preventive care, quality improvement, telehealth, remote monitoring, diabetes, autism, and many other health conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The physician provides licensed medical care including diagnosis, treatment, case management and clinical research; directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in an outpatient setting and / or inpatient setting;
  • conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical conditions;
  • orders procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and / or medications required;
  • documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families;
  • directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides training of residents, fellows, and medical students;

ensures continuing medical education requirements are met and participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities.

Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), board certified or board eligible in specialization required.

State of Ohio and DEA licensure required.

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical.

These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field.

Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms.

Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and / or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure.

These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study.

Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD / PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor.

These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years.

Their principal career focus is research.
