Position Overview :

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Geotechnical Department Manager to lead our geotechnical team. As a part of our multi-disciplinary firm, the ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of geotechnical engineering projects, collaborating with various departments to provide innovative and high-quality solutions.

This position offers the flexibility of remote work while being based in the Houston, TX area to accommodate local project demands.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leadership & Team Management :
  • Manage, mentor, and lead a team of geotechnical engineers and support staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including resource allocation, staffing, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development.
  • Project Management :
  • Direct geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Oversee field investigations, laboratory testing programs, and data analysis.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with industry standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with other departments (civil, structural, environmental) for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Client Relations :
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for geotechnical clients, maintaining relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, and proposals for new business development.
  • Identify and pursue new geotechnical opportunities and markets.
  • Technical Expertise :
  • Provide technical guidance on geotechnical engineering design and analysis, including foundation design, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, and site characterization.
  • Ensure quality control for technical documents, reports, and drawings.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, methodologies, and best practices in geotechnical engineering.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience :
  • 12+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including project management and leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary projects and teams.
  • Experience with remote team management is a plus.
  • Licenses / Certifications :
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas required.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
  • Skills :
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis, gINT).
  • Ability to work independently and manage a remote team effectively.
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
