Overview

Princeton University Library is seeking a Library Collections Specialist at the Architecture Library, located in the School of Architecture.

Reporting to the Library Operations Supervisor, this library assistant position supports collections services, public services, course reserves, and outreach in the Architecture Library.

The Architecture Library serves Princeton’s renowned School of Architecture, as well as the interdisciplinary design history and theory community, which includes the program in Urban Studies and the Princeton Mellon Initiative in Architecture, Urbanism & the Humanities.

The Library Collections Specialist will work 1pm-5pm, Monday through Friday, in the Architecture Library.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as outreach, tools, and models coordinator, who leads the Drawing Tools and Building Models Programs, which foster connection to SoA curriculum and highlight the Architecture Library's services and resources
  • Organizes and processes faculty course reserve requests, facilitating world class research
  • Contributes to collections services, leading stacks and collection maintenance projects
  • Supervises public services in the afternoon, responding to patron questions and troubleshooting issues
  • Assists in managing the public services student staff
  • Scans print materials for reserves and document delivery services

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications :

  • Minimum of three years of experience in an academic library or comparable setting, with demonstrated ability to manage information and operate effectively under time pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage time and projects successfully.
  • Supervisory and / or project management experience, as well as demonstrated public service experience and skills.
  • Facility with email, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office applications, along with a willingness to learn new technology.
  • Ability to work well in a team-based environment, including work with student employees.
  • Knowledge of database applications and experience working with information management tools and concepts.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree, with training in architecture, studio art, or related discipline.
  • Experience working with Alma or other ILS systems, OCLC, and other major bibliographic databases.
  • Knowledge of architectural design, studio instruction, architectural history and theory, or other related disciplines (including engineering, landscape design, or studio art) and an understanding of the working patterns and styles of the discipline.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in an academic or research library.
  • Ability to evaluate architectural drawing tools and models for retention, lending, display, or needed repairs.
  • Bibliographic competence in Western European languages.
  • Familiarity with cataloging and metadata record structures (including the MARC21 metadata schema) and content standards (including RDA and authority structure and standards).
