Job Description
The Microbiology Lab Technician conducts testing in accordance with established procedures using Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
- Conduct testing under methods such as ASTM, BAM, PCPC, USP and EPA Testing may involve direct interaction with the test subjects.
- Utilize fundamentals of microbial testing, including good aseptic technique, serial dilutions, plating of samples, environmental monitoring and counting colonies according to Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Willingness to work with other SGS colleagues and study sponsors as a team.
- Record data in a consistent and accurate manner.
- Lab maintenance, including stocking of consumable materials, media preparation, quality control, storage of research materials / microorganisms, cleaning of glassware and housekeeping.
- Wear, maintain, and properly use appropriate safety equipment, including, but not limited to eye protection, gloves, and lab coat
- Calibration and verification of lab instrumentation as required, including documentation.
- Maintain proper labeling, handling, storage, use, and disposal of solutions, biohazard and hazardous waste, and microbiological cultures.
- Operate laboratory equipment, such as balances, autoclave, pH meter, pipettes, biosafety cabinet, and centrifuge.
- Follow written and oral instruction.
- Effectively prioritize and plan multiple work activities with varying deadlines and complexities.
- Work and think independently, yet share ideas and work towards team goals
- Express thoughts in a clear concise manner both orally and written.
- Standing for prolonged periods of time
- Perform complex and precise manipulations using your hands and fingers.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Microbiology, or equivalent industrial laboratory experience
