Pilot House Philanthropy is a core service of Pilot House Associates, the family office of Amos and Barbara Hostetter, and serves as the vehicle for the family’s personal philanthropic activity.
In 2020, Pilot House Philanthropy launched the Global Initiative to fund innovative and bold solutions in international development, with a focus on supporting partners in rural Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Global Initiative provides primarily unrestricted, general operating funding to high-impact social ventures working at the intersection of :
- Rural Livelihoods : Catalyze durable, diversified, and transformative income increases for people living in rural and coastal contexts.
- Climate Adaptation & Ecosystem Protection : Help communities on the frontlines of climate change to adapt and grow more resilient to their emerging realities, and to protect critical resources / ecosystems they depend on for their wellbeing.
- Gender Equity : Ensure that women & girls can thrive to their full potential, with specific emphasis on access to education for girl children and economic opportunity for women entering the workforce.
Utilizing a trust-based philanthropy approach, the Global Initiative funds grantees who are closest to the problems they are trying to solve.
Our guiding principles are to act with humility, center proximate leadership and local voices, take calculated risks, streamline the process for grantees, and ultimately support our partners to realize their visions for impact.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Program Associate is a new position and will have a front-row seat to a growing philanthropic program. Reporting to the Global Initiative’s Program Officer, this position will :
- Provide critical support of administrative and programmatic functions related to the grantmaking process and grantee portfolio.
- Work closely with the Program Officer on the grants diligence process; research, collect, and analyze information related to potential and existing partnerships.
- Manage the timely entry and upkeep of information in the Salesforce database; track pipelines, deadlines, budgets, and other grant-related activities.
- Build rapport with grantees and provide technical assistance as needed; serve as the point person for submission of grant materials and follow-up.
- Coordinate scheduling, outreach to, communication, and meeting preparation with grantees, peer funders, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the planning and execution of grantee convenings and international site visits for due diligence and learning.
- Produce high-quality and timely internal materials, inclusive of memos and grant recommendations for team review.
- Provide additional administrative support to the Program Officer, such as managing expense reports, travel, and calendaring.
- Liaise with and support the overall program team, including grants management and finance staff, as needed.
- Operate with discretion and judgment in handling sensitive information about grantees and Pilot House Philanthropy.
- Monitor trends and build knowledge in core issues related to rural livelihoods, climate adaptation, ecosystem protection, and gender equity in the Global South.

You are a detail-oriented task and project manager. You have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under deadlines.
You strive to produce work that is meticulous and error-free, and nothing slips through the cracks.
You are a supportive and knowledgeable resource to others. You bring a customer service mentality to supporting internal and external stakeholders.
You are reliable, responsive, helpful, and operate with the utmost discretion and confidentiality.
- You are a thoughtful communicator who conveys information clearly and concisely. You excel in written and in-person communication, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences and skill in analyzing, breaking down, and communicating ideas in simple ways.
- You are an analytical thinker with solid technology skills . You have a demonstrated ability to identify, collect, organize and synthesize information from various data sources.
Fluency in MS Office and Salesforce experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with impact evaluation and / or financial analysis is a plus.
You are an adaptable, agile, and self-led doer. You are a strong multi-tasker with the ability to stay focused and nimble in managing multiple workstreams.
You are a self-starter with a get-it-done attitude and willingness to jump in without being asked.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, SALARY, AND BENEFITS
This position has a hybrid schedule and is expected to work in the Boston office a minimum of 2 days / week. Additional in-office days will be required during the first six months of employment to facilitate various on-boarding and / or training needs.
The annual salary range for this role is $75,000.00 to $85,000.00. An employee's pay within this range will depend on factors such as education, qualifications, certifications, experience, and skill levels.
