Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country.
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role;
the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
Salary Range
$65,600.00 - $108,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

In this role, you will work collaboratively with members of the legal services team, the business, and other stakeholders to protect, maintain and enforce Travelers’ U.
S. and international trademark rights. You also will assist on a range of copyright, domain name and other intellectual property projects.
This position can be a hybrid work arrangement and will be located in either our Hartford or St. Paul offices.
What Will You Do?
- Maintain a large domestic and international trademark portfolio, including partnering with in-house trademark counsel and overseeing various facets involved in prosecuting, maintaining, policing, and enforcing a global trademark portfolio.
- Assist with preparing and electronically filing trademark applications, responses to office actions, Statements of Use, post-registration maintenance and renewal documents, trademark assignment documents, and other documents with the USPTO.
- Work with internal clients to draft descriptions of goods and services, gather necessary documents and information, and obtain and review trademark specimen of use documents.
- Manage applications from prosecution stage through registration and manage renewals and post-registration requirements.
- Assist with trademark clearance, including conducting preliminary trademark searches, reviewing and analyzing comprehensive trademark reports and preparing summaries for attorney review.
- Liaise with foreign counsel regarding foreign filing requirements for trademark prosecution and maintenance.
- Liaise with external trademark vendors.
- Review and manage vendor Watch Notices and report on relevant notices at weekly team meeting.
- Educate clients on proper trademark use and protection.
- Review marketing materials, insurance forms, and website content for proper trademark use.
- Assist with trademark license quality control reviews.
- Assist with policing and enforcing trademark, copyright, domain name, and other intellectual property matters.
- Prepare trademark docket reports and trademark status reports as needed.
- Manage legalization of documents.
- Assist with U.S. and foreign assignment recordation projects.
- Review communications for compliance with copyright and other intellectual property requirements.
- Participate in special administrative and legal research projects as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Five or more years of experience as a Trademark Paralegal in a law firm or a corporate setting.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certification from an ABA-Certified program.
- Solid experience with conducting, reviewing, and analyzing trademark clearance searches using online tools.
- Excellent internet research skills.
- Proficiency with trademark docket and trademark docketing software.
- Proficiency with trademark search tools (e.g., Corsearch and / or Saegis).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to proactively identify and communicate trademark-related issues and risks.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of internal clients.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with copyright issues.
What is a Must Have?
A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a paralegal or related work experience; or i) a Associate / Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certification from an ABA-Certified program and ii) one year of paralegal or related work experience.
