Overview
Cares for patients, prepare and compiles records, and process orders in the hospital setting under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy.
May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night and or on-call hours
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
- Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner
- Documents care provided according to standards
- Maintains a clean work and patient environment
- Maintains and orders supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies for MHTC and Mercy North.
- Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner. Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately and provides information or relays messages to patients and staff.
- Directs visitors to patients rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed.
- Floats to various units based on identified needs
- Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
- Performs 12 Lead EKGs as directed
- Starts IV as directed
- Performs venipunctures as directed
- Assists ED MDs with intubation by gathering needed equipment
- Performs CPR and places patient on Lucas during resuscitations
- Assist with splint applications by gathering needed supplies
- Assist with chest tube and CVP insertions by gathering needed supplies equipment
- Performs BGMs as directed
- Transports non-monitored patients to the inpatient units

Education and Experience
Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state with 2 years healthcare experience or
Medical Assistant with 2 years of healthcare experience or
Licensed as an EMT in applicable state with 2 years of healthcare experience or
Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state with 1 year of healthcare experience
Certification and Licensure
Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state, or
Certified as a Medical Assistant in applicable state, or
Licensed as an EMT in applicable state, or
Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days . Other certifications per unit requirements : ACLS, PALS, NALS
