• Conducting patient assessments and developing individualized care plans.
• Administering medications and treatments prescribed by physicians.
• Monitoring patient progress and providing ongoing support and education to patients and their families.
• Collaborating with a team of healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Providing crisis intervention and managing challenging behaviors in patients.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
• Participating in quality improvement and risk management activities.
• Advocating for patient rights and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Providing education and support to patients and families to help them cope with mental illness.
• Participating in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field.

Candidate requirements

• Diploma, Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN), or an applied degree in nursing (ADN)
• Current and valid RN license
• Experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing
• Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse (RN-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
• Continuing education to maintain license and stay current in the field
• Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN)
• Forensic Nursing Certification
• Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMHNP-BC)
• Geriatric Mental Health Specialist Certification.
