Job Title : Food Protection / Quality Assurance Supervisor

General Function : FPQA Supervisor will be involved with all aspects of Quality and Food Safety to ensure safe and wholesome food for our customers.

The FPQA Supervisor position is a working supervisor position and will be expected to perform verifications on the production floor daily, as well as additional tasks as assigned.

This individual will work closely with production employees, supervisors and regulatory staff. The FPQA Supervisor will work with staff and suppliers to ensure the food source is safe and wholesome.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

• Review daily production paperwork and ensure it is complete prior to filing.
• Perform Document Review when needed. Must be HACCP Certified to perform task (not required prior to becoming employed).
• Manage facility quality operations on a daily basis to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, local, state, and federal regulations, and customer requirements.
• With assistance from Food Protection and Compliance manager, conduct investigations into incidents, recalls, and quality issues; document findings.
• Coordinate and assist with food protection and quality training programs to ensure employees are current with regulatory requirements and procedures.
• Review daily production paperwork and ensure it is complete prior to filing. Verifying all CCPs and regulatory requirements are met.
• Oversee the scheduling of the QA employees and verify all daily tasks assigned. Monitor overtime for employees and adjust as needed.

Overseeing of additional departments may vary depending on location.

• Review daily samples of all production runs, ensuring proper containers, lids, dating and product are used.
• Conduct counseling and reviews of staff as needed.
• Assist with tours of the facility for inspections from various regulatory agencies. Follow-up with deviations discovered during inspections.
• Monitor daily allergen sequences and assist production with sequence of production runs.
• Monitor room temperatures and ingredient temperatures and take action if out of spec.
• Ensure the weekly collection of Microbial swabs (including Listeria swabs) and quarterly testing of product for presence of Listeria.
• Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics :

• Knowledge of current OSHA guidelines and other safety regulations.

• Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages and have basic computer skills.

• Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
• HACCP certification and experience working with FDA / USDA Highly helpful.

Education and Experience :

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in Quality Assurance is a plus
• Three or more years’ experience in management along with production facility experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports) :

Responsible for instruction, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work for others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, and acting on employee problems.

Manage department workload to manpower and resources to effectively balance department costs and overtime with Commissary needs and improvements.

Recommends employee disciplinary action as appropriate - Works closely with Human Resources.

Physical Requirements :

• Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 8-12 hours a day.
• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities : Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions :

• Fast paced work environment and will require some pressure to meet deadlines.
• The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area, which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees).
• Working directly with employees, technicians and vendors.

Equipment Used to Perform Job :

Computer, iPads, pallet jack, forklift, telescopic forklift, box cutter, knives, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, calculator, telephone, and manufacturing machinery

Contacts : Has daily contact with employees, suppliers / vendors, and federal or state regulatory agencies (USDA) regarding inspections.

Has occasional contact with federal and / or state regulatory agencies regarding audits.
