JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining, enhancing and supporting the assigned areas of the computing and / or communications infrastructure as directed by management or appropriate team leader, in accordance with the business needs of the company;

providing project leadership, prioritization, advanced problem resolution, and product analysis.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all hardware, software, and communications problems within assigned areas of responsibility are thoroughly researched and brought to a satisfactory conclusion including any system modifications deemed necessary.
  • Coordinate systems management, upgrades, and maintenance activities for the computing and / or communications infrastructure providing proper planning, testing, implementation, and purchasing support.
  • Assist the manager or appropriate team leader with purchasing decisions and activities; prioritization of pending projects;

and delegation of duties within assigned areas.

  • Research, analyze, and recommend computing and / or communication solutions according to business needs based on cost / benefit analysis.
  • Lead medium to large size projects including product evaluation, systems design, resource allocation, training, and implementation.
  • Follow defined security policies and procedures to ensure timely vulnerability response, proper access controls, and logging of system / access changes.
  • Collaborate with security personnel to strengthen system security to protect against data loss.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and documentation of the assigned hardware, software and communication systems to provide maximum uptime and stability.
  • Maintain direct working relationships with technology vendors applicable to assigned areas of hardware, software and communications infrastructure to stay abreast of changes and future direction.
  • Establish and maintain Disaster Recovery documentation as required for business continuity as systems are added and changed.
  • Assist the manager with reviewing and updating computing and / or communications infrastructure documentation to ensure consistency in procedures and resolution for network, server and application issues.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

  • Proven ability to foster a team environment with open communication, coaching, and strong collaboration toward team goals.
  • Expertise in multiple infrastructure disciplines (Windows server, Linux, Active Directory / Group Policy, networking, monitoring, server virtualization, SAN management, security, and applying least privilege principles) is required.
  • Must be detailed-oriented with a demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and scope support work.
  • Proven project management skills within a team-oriented environment are required.
  • Must possess strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor other systems engineers.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Information Systems related field or equivalent degree is required.
  • Must have five years of experience dealing with hardware, software, and / or communication infrastructure issues within a mixed-system environment.
  • Network or Systems Certifications (VMware, Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, CompTIA, etc) are of benefit.
  • Experience with System i, VMware, Networking, and / or Windows Servers is desired.
  • Systems management experience in a mixed systems environment is desired.
  • Insurance background is desired.
