JOB SUMMARY

The Dual Recovery Specialist provides substance abuse education and relapse prevention strategies and implements social model interventions in the milieu.

The Dual Recovery Specialist is knowledgeable about abstinence based as well as harm reduction strategies and understands the interactions between psychiatric illness and substance abuse.

Specialist promotes higher levels of wellness, stability, and quality of life, assists in the prevention of acute psychiatric or substance abuse relapses, and assists the client to lessen the debilitating effects of substance abuse and mental disorders.

Dual Recovery Specialist utilizes best practices in psychiatric, substance abuse, prevocational, nursing, and social skills, and illness management techniques with a strengths-based approach consistent with principles of CCISC and Assertive Community Treatment.

Incumbent also provides case management services and serve as liaison with Probation, where applicable. The range of authority is consistent with that of MHS Dual Recovery Specialists.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides engagement and outreach to current or potential clients, and families in the community.
  • Provides expertise in the areas of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders to interdisciplinary team.

Interacts therapeutically with clients, and families in the community and demonstrates boundaries consistent

with professional standards.

Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in a timely manner as dictated by

program requirements.

  • Primarily provides services in the field.
  • Serves as part of the on-call team, fulfilling all work requirements of this program component.
  • Assists in promoting program services to community when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates adequate care and responsibility for equipment. Reports and / or repairs missing or

damaged equipment and supplies.

Ensures facilities upkeep and safety by maintaining neat and clean work areas, by securing work area at close

of business day, and by reporting vandalism, theft, or suspicion of drug abuse by coworkers to supervisor as

soon as possible.

  • Follow administrative chain of command.
  • MHS requires all employees to attain a minimum degree of training and knowledge in cultural competency,

co-occurring and gender responsiveness and to routinely demonstrate these traits in everyday work

relationships.

  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Participates in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and follows guidelines that promote workplace safety.
  • Provides input towards policy and procedure design, revision, and deletion.
  • Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

For master’s level position : M.A. / M.S. degree in human services field, and at least 2 years’ experience providing

substance abuse.

For certification level position : B.A. / B.S. degree or certification in a substance abuse treatment field, and two

years’ experience providing substance abuse and integrated services to individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Training and / or experience in substance abuse programs and treatment, relapse prevention, harm reduction,

motivational interviewing and 12-Step programs.

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
  • Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
