Position Summary :
The PET Technologist is responsible for performing Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging procedures in an outpatient clinic setting.
This role involves working closely with patients, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
The PET Technologist ensures the safe and effective use of imaging equipment, follows established protocols, and provides compassionate care to patients.
Position Summary Expanded :
Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, ( The Unity Bill ) this position is considered a Safety-sensitive position.
Safety-sensitive is defined to include any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.
Employees working in safety-sensitive roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.

Key Responsibilities :
Patient Preparation and Care :
- Greet patients and explain the PET scan procedure in a clear and reassuring manner.
- Prepare patients for the procedure, including administering radiopharmaceuticals and positioning them correctly.
- Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their safety and comfort.
Imaging Procedures :
- Perform PET imaging according to established protocols and physician orders.
- Operate PET scanners and associated equipment to capture diagnostic images.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of images by adjusting equipment settings as needed.
Safety and Compliance :
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols and procedures to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Maintain accurate records of radiopharmaceuticals and ensure proper handling and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Comply with all relevant state and federal regulations, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
Collaboration and Communication :
- Work closely with radiologists and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal imaging and patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing any concerns or questions.
- Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and continuing education activities.
Equipment Maintenance and Quality Control :
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of PET equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.
- Conduct quality control checks and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications : Education :
Education :
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or equivalent required.
Licensure / Certification :
- Current state licensure as a Radiologic Technologist or Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (NM) or equivalent.
Experience :
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in PET imaging, preferably in an outpatient clinic setting.
Skills :
- Proficiency in operating PET / CT scanners and related imaging equipment.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Work Environment :
- Outpatient clinic setting with a focus on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
- May involve standing for long periods and lifting / moving patients or equipment.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist patients in and out of the imaging equipment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the clinic for extended periods.
