ROLE AND PURPOSE : The primary purpose of the Licensed Specialist in School Psychology is to perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, Autism, and behavioral problems.

Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education / Licensure

  • Master's Degee in school psychology from accredited college or university; or
  • Graduate of a training program approved by the National Association of School Psychology or accredited by the American Psychology Association and holds licensure as Licensed Specialist in School by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists; or

Experience

  • Three years counseling experience preferred
  • Public school experience preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Management

A. Develop, implement and modify school psychology services based on identified student needs.

B. Administer approved psychological, achievement and intelligence measures using district approved instruments and procedures.

C. Conduct functional behavioral assessment / analysis and collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement a behavioral intervention plan.

D. Prepare written evaluation reports using district approved format.

E. Participate in Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committees for purpose of interpreting diagnostic results and designing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) based on findings.

F. Advise designated personnel on individual student learning intervention strategies, positive behavioral intervention strategies and counseling assessments / recommendations.

G. Compile data and reports upon request from AISD administration or supervisor.

H. Analyze campus DAEP placement and program disciplinary removal data and work collaboratively with stakeholders to address identified need.

I. Serve as a resource to student study / response to intervention teams for students who are at risk.

J. Provide staff development for administrators, teachers, and other staff as requested.

K. Exhibit flexibility in performance of assigned duties

School / Organizational Improvement

A. Keep informed of and comply with all district policies, operating procedures, legal regulatory requirements, and verbal and written directives as they pertain to your areas of responsibility, including daily attendance, punctuality and confidentiality.

B. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents.

C. Attend training as required by the job assignment and district / campus improvement plan

D. Systematically monitors / analyzes the effective implementation and outcomes of district improvement and programming initiatives related to areas of responsibility

E. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research-based practices and ensure that programming design and implementation are in alignment with such practices

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL / FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

A. Operate office equipment, assistive technology devices, audio-visual technology, and use computer to retrieve and send email and use district required system / software.

B. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities

Student Management

A. Interact with students professionally, calmly, intentionally using language for teaching and de-escalation

B. Conduct functional behavior assessments and write individual student behavior intervention plans (BIP) for student academic and social emotional success

C. Document and report SHARS eligible services as stated in the IEP and district requirements.

School / Community Relations

A. Provide consultation to administrators, teachers, parents and support personnel regarding the psychological and behavioral needs of students.

B. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

C. Maintain and promote confidentiality of student information per FERPA requirements.

D. Promote a positive image of the district and maintain a positive working relationship with parents and the community,

E. Collaboratively provide parent education opportunities in connection to areas of responsibility

F. Serve as a liaison between parent, school and private practitioners and other community agencies.

l. While performing the duties of a licensed specialist in school psychology, the employee may frequently be required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive physical motions.

2. While performing these duties of the job, the employee may frequently be required to lift and / or move at least 50 pounds of materials, or lift children.

3. While performing the duties of the job assignment, the employee may frequently be required to deescalate physical aggression including the use of safe, non-harmful physical restraint procedures.

Professional Growth AND DEVELOPMENT

A. Participate in Mandt System trainings as required by the job assignment

B. Participate in professional learning to improve job performance and support growth goals

C. Keep abreast of new research and information on testing instruments concerning reliability, validity, interpretations and new tests.

D. Keep abreast of new research and information on medical and psychological syndromes that affect the diagnosis of a legal disability.

E. Keep abreast of the continual changes and the most current legal interpretations of state and federal guidelines, policies and procedures as it pertains to areas of responsibility.

F. Maintain continuing education licensing and certification as required by Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
