From our humble beginnings in 1951 as a group of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes in support of polio research, March of Dimes Canada has grown into a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization.
We work for people with disabilities and seniors, helping them with daily living, rehabilitation and employment.
Our Community Support Services team, which is primarily funded by governments, provides essential services that enable people to live as independently as possible.
Whether the disability is physical, cognitive or the result of brain injury or aging, our team of 1,600 employees assists people in their homes and communities, helping them gain a greater level of functioning and connection with others.
Over the past year, the number of people we serve rose to more than 6,100 people.
This Opportunity We are currently looking to fill a Support Services Attendant (SSA) in our Outreach Program. Starting wage is TBD, with paid travel time and mileage.
Plus this position is eligible for an extra $3 / per hour pandemic pay , paid by the Government of Ontarios temporary initiative.
Valid drivers licence, proof of insurance, and reliable vehicle required.
Duties include the following :
- Assists consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures :
- Personal care - Dressing / Grooming
- Rising / retiring
- Incontinence care upon training
- Meal preparation and feeding - Range of motion exercises
- Light housekeeping duties - Lifts and Transfers upon training
- Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.
- The Support Services Attendant (SSA) will be required to work multiple shifts (i.e. workdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays) that vary between locations through Haldimand / Norfolk counties.
Background / Qualifications :
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with individuals with physical disabilities, older adults, or as an informal caregiver considered an asset but not required
- Good interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills
- Physical Demands Self Analysis Required upon hire
- Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation REQUIRED
