Position description

The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for Lecturer faculty positions in the area of Performance Studies, with a concentration in New Media and Performance.

The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) teaches performance as a mode of critical inquiry, creative expression, and public engagement.

Through performance training and research, we create liberal arts graduates with expanded analytical, technical, and imaginative capacities.

As a public institution, we make diversity, equity, and inclusion a key part of our teaching, art making, and public programming.

Successful candidates for our faculty positions will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.

Course to be taught :

Theater 118AC - Performance, Television, and Social Media

This course examines the intersections of performance and media specifically the media forms of television and social media in the U.

S. with a focus on how various types of difference (race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic class) are enacted, articulated, represented, and played on TV and social media platforms.

This course is entirely asynchronous, and is taught online.

Job Duties : Course Delivery

Course Delivery

  • coordinate with the TDPS Department Manager and Chair on hiring Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) for the course
  • customize the syllabus bCourses site with any year-specific information (e.g., deadlines)
  • train and manage the course GSIs
  • launch and manage the course during Summer Session C
  • communicate with DSP students enrolled in the course and implement accommodations for them in accordance with their DSP Letters of Accommodation
  • communicate regularly with all students enrolled in the course regarding requirements and deadlines, and support GSIs in their communications with students
  • calculate and submit final grades at the conclusion of Summer Session C

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

required at time of application)

PhD (or equivalent international degree).

Preferred qualifications

PhD in Performance Studies or related field, a background in Performance Studies and New Media intersections, and experience creating lectures and content for online courses in the university setting.

2-3 years' experience teaching at the university level and experience leading courses supported by graduate student instructors is also preferred.
