Job Summary :

The Avangrid IT Director of Network Technologies plays a critical role in overseeing and managing all Avangrid's Corporate network infrastructure.

This role will be responsible to ensure the efficient redundant design, reliable operations, security, and strategic alignment with company needs of all corporate network engineering and network security services.

This position will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, as well as a Senior Manager, and will report directly to the Senior Director of the Technology, Platforms and Operations (TPO) team, within the IT organization.

Major Roles & Responsibilities :

  • Develops and communicates a clear strategy and evolution for all Avangrid's corporate network infrastructure aligned with the organization's overall IT strategy.
  • Provides leadership and oversight on all technical aspects of the area, including technical engineering, operational readiness, early adopter and pilot programs, technology transition and transformation;

technology adoption; service delivery and service support.

  • Leads a team of 12 Network architects and engineers and 1 Senior Manager - Infrastructure, Tech & Ops.
  • Designs, maintains, and implements a robust, scalable, and secure network architecture, looking for efficiency, integration / consolidation, and evolution / transformation.
  • Oversee and manages a network made up of, cloud and on-prem datacenters, and 500+ nodes in 26 states of the USA. Infrastructure provides network services to all Avangrid Operating Companies.
  • Delivers excellent levels operational stability and reliability to the enterprise network infrastructure. Define operational programs and identify opportunities for improving operational efficiency and reliability.

Foster culture of continuous transformation.

  • Monitors network performance metrics, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Implements and enforces security policies and rules as defined by Corporate Security. This position will overview the group of Network Security engineers in charge of designing, operating and securely maintaining company perimeter protection (both cloud and on-prem).
  • Anticipates network growth and plan for capacity expansion. Manage a solid refresh plan for on-prem infrastructure and technology evolution for cloud resources.

Network expansion needs to consider scalability requirements based on business needs.

  • Ensures all network services are built with redundancy. Develop and maintain network disaster recovery plans. Define Test and validate network redundancy and resilience in a periodic basis.
  • Creates a sustainable IT environment to facilitate growth while maintaining required NERC / regulatory compliance and end user requirements.
  • Manages relationships with network hardware and software vendors. Including but not limited to Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Zscaler, Akamai, etc.
  • Leads a team distributed in a multilayer support model in three tiers. Experience managing service outsourcing on levels 1 and 2.
  • Stay ahead of IT trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in network technologies and operations.
  • Responsible for defining Network Infrastructure demand and budget, both Capital and Operational. Work collaboratively with IT management to analyze, characterize and prioritize projects, aligned to both Business and IT Strategies.
  • Ensure the enterprise has the capability to support new technology and maintain high levels of service.
  • Proactively assesses IT resource requirements for business area initiatives which includes skill set requirements and training needs.
  • Manages and enforces IT standards, processes, policies and methodologies. Handles task prioritization, task assignment and task status reporting.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelors in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Desired : master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten (10) Years + of IT or Technology experience on any capability.
  • Additional Five (5) Years in Technology Leadership. Managerial experience in strategic project execution, strategic planning, risk management, and change management while engaging and influencing various stakeholders at all levels across the company.
  • 5+ years of IT Projects coordination experience.
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for utility companies including NERC CIP.

Skills / Abilities :

  • Demonstrated history managing large engineering teams covering some of the following technologies : routing, switching, enterprise wireless, VoIP, Firewall, antiDDos technologies, Web Application security, Cloud networking,
  • Strong overall understanding of SAP modules, functionality and technology.
  • Strong history of managing complex efforts with demanding customers.
  • Proven experience providing executive level reporting.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities and meet target deadline.
  • Ability to communicate with and influence technical and non-technical customers, colleagues, and vendors.
  • Ability to share knowledge and mentor and manage less experienced team members.
  • Strong commitment to personnel safety and IT security.
  • Willingness and ability to travel international.
  • Ability to build strong relationships within IT (Applications, IOC, Innovation), Local and Global.
