Currently recruiting a Phlebotomist in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to work in the Blood Donor Center (BDC) at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg.
Full-time positions, Mon - Fri, 0700 - 1530 hours.In addition to these hours, the phlebomists may work during blood drives that are regularly scheduled weekly at off-post sites to include weekends and holidays.
DUTIES OF THE PHLEBOTOMIST :
- Comply with all CFR, Blood Services Directives, Blood Services Letters, Local Operating Procedures and Exposure Control Plan policies and procedures as well as all Red Cross philosophies, structures, policies and procedures.
- Perform some phases of whole blood collection and donor care according to directives, the Code of Federal Regulations and local policies and procedures to ensure safe product and optimum donor experience.
- Recruit donors for future donations.
- Practice proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors
- Label vials with patient names and dates
- Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient
- Transport all specimen samples to a nearby laboratory
- Centrifuge blood samples, depending on if this is allowed in the state you are working in
- Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status
- Practice infection control and Personal Protective Equipment standards
- Complete extensive standardized training and demonstrate competency to perform each job function and commit to perform only those tasks for which documented training has been completed.
- Provide instruction and training as requested following designation of Preceptor / Instructor status.
- Perform other related duties as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PHLEBOTOMIST :
- High school equivalent and completion of a Donor Phlebotomy program accredited by The Joint Commission or CAP.
- Certification / registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Must have performed 50 successful donor collections with an accredited laboratory within the last two years.
- Must be U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems)
