Technician Specialist (Lab & Pilot plant)
Location : Columbia, MD, US, 21044 Job Description
The primary function of this position is to support research and development activities within the Refining Technologies business of W.
R. Grace. The typical daily activities of the employee will include performing laboratory and pilot-scale zeolite and catalyst preparations under the general supervision of a research professional, sampling and submission for analysis and evaluations, keeping detailed records of the work performed, organizing and reporting results.
Responsibilities :
Work safely with chemicals / materials. Follow all Environmental Health & Safety requirements and complete all required safety trainings.
Perform laboratory and pilot scale preparation of zeolites and catalysts. Submit samples for analysis and / or evaluation.
Operate and share maintenance responsibility of pilot plant equipment with other group members.
Perform the necessary housekeeping in order to maintain a clean and safe work area.
Perform basic stoichiometric calculations and develop work plans to achieve project objectives.
Keep detailed records of the work performed.
Operate and maintain lab scale analytical equipment and participate in developing new analytical methods.
Required Skills
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with knowledge in chemistry, math, and computers. Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for data recording, processing, and reporting.
Holds safety as a top priority while working in a team setting.
Self-direction and the ability to work according to priorities are necessary.
Has basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting / moving up to 40 pounds.
Required Experience
2-4 years of technical experience in an academic or industrial chemical labs or pilot plant operations setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in any science or engineering. Two years of college with coursework in chemistry, engineering, or math; relevant work history and experience will be considered in lieu of education.
