Cummings Electrical is seeking high-energy, self-starters with a strong work ethic to join our team as a Construction Superintendent in Training.

Through a blend of field and management training, as well as office-based structured learning, and mentorship, successful Construction Superintendents in Training will develop the skills to advance into a leadership position.

Are you ready to work hard? Get your hands dirty working in the field? Through field training, you will work as an apprentice electrician on large commercial and industrial projects to gain hands-on experience and understanding of the company’s means and methods, culture, services, quality of work standards, and technical aspects of various project types.

As your development progresses, you will gain knowledge of standard business processes while developing your management and leadership skills.

The end result? To develop Superintendents who can achieve operational goals, build teams, manage effectively, and contribute to the overall success and profitability of Cummings Electrical.

Responsibilities

GENERAL ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES : These statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position.

This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and / or skills required. Additional responsibilities may also be assigned.

  • Gain an understanding of the company’s safety culture and policies.
  • Uphold safe working conditions and preventative safety measures and always ensure compliance and enforcement of safety program at all times.
  • Work in the field as a hands-on apprentice electrician on large commercial and industrial construction projects.
  • Develop proper knowledge and understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, and sequences.
  • Understand what it takes to construct projects on time, within budget and to quality standards.
  • Understand how Safety, Scheduling, Processes & Production, Resource Loading and Projections lead to successful projects.
  • Complete training modules on the aspects of field work, standard business processes, and safety.
  • Maintain positive working environment for entire site team.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Potty’s).
  • Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them at all time (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.).
  • Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladders by one's self.
  • Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1 - 250 lbs., Class 1A - 300 lbs.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat and safety glasses at all times) and respirator when required.
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts.

PHYSICAL FUNCTION

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Lift 51 pounds, 20 times per day.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Constantly moving on your feet.
  • Climb ladders (all types).
  • Completing overhead work for full day assignments.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.

S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.

  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
  • Possess good hearing (normal or corrected).
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions including jobsite directions, maps, and instructional manuals.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Safety True Believer
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business; or 5 + years of relevant field experience (preferred) or other work experience
  • Possess strong analytical skills and be process orientated
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical aptitude to learn new software (Oracle, SAP, or other ERP systems)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain Apprentice Electrical License through TDLR
  • Permanent US work authorization is required (sponsorship is not provided).
