Security Supervisor: CIRI Building

Under the supervision of the Security Director, the Security Supervisor provides supervision of security personnel assigned to the CIRI contract and is responsible for security of the personnel and property located at the CIRI Office Building in the event of assault, theft, vandalism, harassment and other disruptive incidents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of law enforcement, military or security experience
  • State of Alaska Unarmed Security Guard certification
  • CPR / First aid certification or able to obtain
  • Pepper Spray certified or able to obtain
  • Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in a supervisory or management function, which includes one year of administrative management in security documentation, indexing, file maintenance and review of security reports
  • At least one year working in corporate building security

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enforce policies and procedures
  • Administer the DUS Quality Control Program
  • Administer the DUS Safety Program
  • Control access of personnel, materials and equipment to and within the building
  • Perform security patrols of the work sites
  • Respond to general alarms, power outages, broken water / power lines and security breaches of any kind
  • Maintain radio / telephone communications
  • Effect an arrest if necessary, using handcuffs
  • Confront suspicious persons, assess intentions, and take action as appropriate
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters
  • Extinguish fires by using a fire extinguisher and other appropriate means
  • Effectively and coherently communicate over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications
  • Utilize clear and appropriate communication skills when communicating with people
  • Gather information in investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of all participants and witnesses
  • Reduce the results of those investigations into written form so as to clearly and accurately reflect the information obtained
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining appropriate action
  • Conduct visual surveillance for extended periods of time
  • Observe, recall, and distinguish characteristics of persons, suspects, automobiles, location, property, etc. to include colors, shapes, sizes, height, weight, abnormalities, changes or differences since last observed, and other distinguishing characteristics
  • Willingness to perform other duties as required
  • Willingness to work at various locations as required

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Assists in the management and supervision of security personnel, equipment, and facilities during routine and emergency situations
  • Ensure that all assigned equipment, uniforms, and gear are properly maintained and protected and that inventories are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure that facilities furnished for officer use afford proper protection from the elements and provide an environment that encourages alert and efficient performance of duties
  • Maintain established standards of officer performance by personal example and commendation of superior performance, progressive discipline, and direct contact with personnel on a regular basis.
  • Regularly evaluate individual performance of officers on their reports, personal observations, and information provided by others and take such corrective action as necessary to achieve optimum overall performance, in accordance with DUS personnel policies
  • Shall be available to provide back up support for personnel on duty and make management level decisions in emergencies

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing less than fifty pounds. Applicants will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and functional capacity exam.
