Minimum Qualifications Valid license and current New York State registration to practice dentistry in New York State and three years of full-time, post-licensure professional dentistry experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in a dental health care setting.
You must also have kept abreast of current developments in dentistry through the completion of continuing education in the amount of at least 150 hours post-graduate education.
Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration. This position may be designated 55 b / c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
Duties Description This Dentist 2 position is a direct service-administrative position. The incumbent will provide professional dental care for youth who are in the custody of OCFS by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums.
The Dentist 2 will perform a full-range of dental duties in connection with the treatment of dental diseases or dental health problems requiring corrective restorative or preventive measures as required by agency policy and procedures.
In addition to treating youth placed at OCFS facilities, this dentist serving in this position will also have system-wide administrative responsibilities as described below.
PRIMARY CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :
- Conduct examinations of individuals teeth and surrounding oral structures utilizing x-rays, mouth mirrors and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions.
- Treat dental diseases, injuries and malfunctions of teeth and gums.
- Perform restoration of simple and compound cavities.
- Administer anesthetics.
- Perform oral surgery commensurate with professional qualifications.
- Perform extractions of teeth.
- Clean teeth by scaling calculus.
- Treat teeth, mouth and gum infections with appropriate drugs or by surgery.
- Maintain written records of individuals dental treatments.
- Advise individuals about dental health practices.
- Instruct and direct paraprofessional dental staff in the performance of auxiliary duties.
PRIMARY ADMINSTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES :
In their administrative role, the Dentist 2 will be responsible for conducting a minimum of one site visit annually, to all (9) OCFS facilities.
Duties will also include completing case reviews, addressing provider complaints or issues, conducting quality assurance assessments, and meeting with medical staff and facility administrative management to discuss dental needs, issues and concerns, as applicable.
Many of these functions will be conducted remotely using virtual contacts and electronic record management systems.
Additional administrative duties of the Dentist 2 include, but are not limited to :
- Oversight of the implementation of necessary IT / technology upgrades and improvement projects and ongoing needs thereafter
- Review proposed dental care plans of youth and consult with the agency’s Chief of Medical Services and relevant members of the agency’s dental and administrative teams, as needed
- Provide clinical supervision of OCFS and / or contracted dental hygienist(s) and / or dental assistant(s).
