Civil Engineer - Assistant Project Manager

Job Summary : Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager for our Dallasoffice . In this position, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to assist the transit Project Managers with daily project management activities such as preparing a work plan, developing and updating the project design schedule, preparing the agenda for the internal coordination meetings and client meetings, assembling the project deliverables.

Besides assisting the transit Project Managers, the ideal candidate will also have the opportunity to further develop the engineering skills by working on the track design, roadway design, or bridge design projects depending on his / her background.

This is an excellent opportunity for a young professional Engineer who wants to become a Project Manager on transit projects.

The ideal candidate may have a background in civil, highway, transportation or bridge design. Previous project management experience is not required.

Compensation Type : Salary

Registration(s) : Professional Engineer in the state of Texas or ability to obtain in six months

Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • This role will allow you to learn from experienced Project Managers (PM) and build your own skill sets, management approaches, and knowledge base.
  • By collaborating with a diverse range of project managers, you will gain exposure to multiple problem-solving methodologies, management styles, and a clear path to future success.
  • Assist the transit Project Manager with daily project management activities such as preparing a work plan, developing and updating the project design schedule, preparing the agenda for the internal coordination meetings and client meetings, assembling the project deliverables.
  • Performing design calculations, preparing plans and specifications for track, roadway, or bridge design depending on the candidate’s background.
  • Manage all project aspects including scope of work development, fee development, and subconsultant management.
  • Assist transit business development and project pursuits efforts.
  • Interact and collaborate with clients, owners, subconsultants and other disciplines.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • 5 + years of experience working on transit / transportation / bridge projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in State of Texas or ability to obtain in six months.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with project teams.
  • An open mind to alternative methods from what you have previously been taught.
  • Experience with MicroStation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
