SUMMARY

As an Engineering Technical Writer and Illustrator your primary responsibilities are to; develop new operation, parts, assembly illustrations, product mechanical / electrical illustrations, and safety technical manuals for end users.

Maintain existing technical manuals. Design and maintain product labeling for safety and informative purposes. You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance and safety teams.

By taking a hands-on approach working with our products, you’ll ensure a comprehensive development of Signode product manuals, technical documents, and brochures.

Essential Functions :

• Work closely with engineering product development teams to create text, graphics and other components required to produce technical manuals and decals.
• Maintain conformity with global technical publication requirements.
• Work with product safety staff in maintaining the lowest level of liability in what is presented to the customer.
• Contribute to safety risk assessments and ensure technical manuals support safe use of the products.
• Good mechanical aptitude, diagnostic and investigation skills are required to help end-users operate, investigate (root-cause), troubleshoot, and provide solutions.
• Design and layout publications and decals with an attractive look, logical flow and efficient navigation.
• Design product labeling based on standards set by ANSI, EN and ISO regarding size, color and content.
• Coordinate changes produced by the engineering ECO system to reflect changes in content.
• Create and edit effective technical illustrations and / or use of photography for the best method possible to reflect topics of publications.
• Create and edit effective technical illustrations by use of the engineering CAD system(s).
• Communicate with manufacturing personnel to coordinate documents that are packaged with products.
• Work with outside vendors as required (printing, translations, etc).
• Product publications for pre-production products.
• Maintain records of all technical publications currently in use.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

BA, BFA or BS degree preferred

Experience / Abilities

• Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience working in development or technical support of industrial equipment
• Experience in development or technical support of industrial equipment a plus
• Experience working directly with engineers in a technical support capacity a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Computer skills :

• Proficiency in MS Office suite required.
• Adobe design suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) or similar required.
• Basic photography skills a plus
• Experience in SharePoint, Solidworks and Autodesk CAD a plus
