Mechanical Piping Designer

Summary Designer shall work in a team environment to develop accurate, constructible, coordinated, and timely Mechanical Piping system models meeting McKenney’s drafting standards and fully coordinated with the architectural & structural elements of the building and the other building trades (sprinkler, ductwork, piping, etc.

A Mechanical Piping designer will also be responsible for providing accurate shop drawings that support the construction team.

Assessment Created with Sketch. Position Details The designer will report to the modeling supervisor and be responsible for interacting with the fabrication supervisor, detailers, project managers, project engineers, field foreman.

Responsibilities

Management Created with Sketch. Management Use Company tools to manage requests for information and shop drawing progress.

Work with project manager and field foreman to create As-Built condition drawings for projects. Mechanical Created with Sketch.

Mechanical Accurately model Mechanical Piping systems in compliance with project plans, project specifications, and code requirements for the purposes of producing fabrication documents (spool sheets and drawing) from the model.

Coordinate all Mechanical Piping systems with : ductwork, mechanical equipment, other trades, architectural and structural elements of the building.

Analyze Created with Sketch. Analysis Review and distribute fabrication information including assembly sheets, and spool drawings to project managers and field leaders.

Proactively identify and communicate areas of deficiency / gaps along with proposed solutions on projects to support timely completion of work.

Communication Created with Sketch. Communication Effectively and proactively communicate with project managers, project engineers and field foremen during the drafting and construction process.

This includes communication of challenges and schedule progress on a timely basis (weekly at a minimum). Teamwork Created with Sketch.

Teamwork Utilize the fabrication team to provide annotated, dimensioned shop drawings, spool assemblies and spool drawings.

Performance Created with Sketch. Performance Produce all documents on time and within budget (estimated drafting hours) in a timely manner based on job requirements to meet commitments to our customers, both internal and external.

Utilize McKenney’s CAD standards to create Mechanical Piping models consistent with company and project requirements. Maintain Enthusiasm and Positive Attitude.

Requirements

Experience Created with Sketch. Experience Minimum of 5 years working in the Mechanical Piping trade or 5 years of Mechanical Piping design experience using Revit 9 or AutoCAD.

Experience with Mechanical Piping drafting using Autodesk Fabrication CADmep software. Must have basic PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software.

Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.

Degree Created with Sketch. Education High school diploma or GED. Teamwork Created with Sketch. Teamwork Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.

Degree Created with Sketch. Degree 2-year Associates Degree in drafting or similar area. Knowledge Created with Sketch. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to layout and size mechanical piping and similar activities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.

Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals.
