Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director of Academic Satellites at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position performs professional patient / client care (individual, partner, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule.

Consults with faculty and staff on issues relevant to student educational performance and emotional well-being. Provides campus programs on education, multicultural concerns and prevention, may provide supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program.

Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • California Licensed Psychologist (PSYCH)
  • Current CPR certification or obtain within 90 days
  • Psychologists (e.g., Psy.D., Ph.D.) governed by California Board of Psychology are required to possess valid license. Psychologist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 180 days after submitting an application to become licensed in California or from date of commencement of residency in California, whichever comes first.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy / counseling.
  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.
  • Experience establishing professional work relationships.
  • Experience providing outreach programs to diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatment interventions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working providing career counseling.
  • Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.
  • Experience working with historically underrepresented or under-served student communities at a major research university.
  • Ability to supervise predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students.

SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness.

SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents.

SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Association for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association).

SHCS mental health staff are an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters-level therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to assisting students and enriching the university community by providing individual counseling, group services, educational programs, psychological consultation, workshops, and other types of outreach services.

Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.
